Why did he not just ask at the farm the best way out? the problem is that joe public look at this and think that
we are all the same.
Read the article and can’t quite grasp the bit where it says ‘a recovery vehicle was used to manoeuvre it out the way’. What sort of ‘recovery vehicle’ would be used in this situation, as it looks pretty bloody tight there, even if u could hook it up to Bubble car (remember them?) with a 5th wheel on the roof! I’ll have a trawl around Twitter…must be a pic or 2 on there of it being recovered!
As above can’t see how a recovery vehicle helped at all, only one way that was coming out and it’s back the way it came.
Probably wasn’t the recovery vehicle that helped, but more like the recovery vehicle “driver” that helped…beyond me how these sort of things happen?
There’s drivers and there’s drivers and this bloke wasn’t either
As the cab is stopped only a few inches from the shop front … I’m curious as to when the driver realised he wouldn’t be able to go any further. Did he not realise it looked a bit doubtful when he poked his head out at the junction, why did he drive across the street and stop on the pavement? what did he expect to happen ?

Exactly. He must have gone in a different way so why not leave the way he came in, unless he was looking for the farm but even then he should have asked farmer for directions.
Matt
Why not just reverse back down the side street as not to block the high street
Looks like he drove down winters lane a single track 6ft 6 wide road Google Maps On seeing how narrow it was ,i would of ignored a sat naff
Maybe this going this way would of been better Google Maps
Perhaps he hadn’t driven from his base to get there. How many times have you ignored your satnav just in case there’s a road you can’t get down on your way there? Mind you, I can’t believe how many drivers I see using car satnavs. I didn’t even do that when I drove puddle jumpers.
Think of the bragging rights available there - if you look at the pic another way, and say “I got this truck here on a blind-side reverse!”
You all hang the driver without knowing all the facts. Yes there are numpties but anyone can make a mistake. We do farm collections and we go down lanes that could end in disaster. On Saturday looking for a farm near Hereford I used sat nav to get near. I Google esrthed to check it looked like a farm. It did. When I got there I could see some sheds in the distance. I turned into a lane as wide as the truck off the A49 high hedges both sides. Turn out it’s a farm been converted into holiday bungalows. Nowhere to turn, stuffed.
Had to reverse out onto A49 blind. Scarey stuff.
That driver probably ended up with cars behind him and game over until someone steps in and martials the job.

Must admit I thought along the same lines when I first saw the pic
I’ve used a car sat nav for 8 years. If I’m going somewhere new I draw myself a map, google it and make sure the sat nav is saying the same route.
Even if going somewhere I know I have sat nav on for when office phone for eta etc.
A sat nav is not god no matter what vehicle its intended for its just a nice aid to have.
Thing that caught my eye was something about making HGVs use sat navs that are specifically for HGVs. Which is interesting because our fleet are all fitted with HGV sat navs and we do a regular run to Clipper at Ollerton in a 16’ trailer and the sat nav routinely takes you on a route that includes a 15’ bridge. It caught me out the first time and I had to reverse a couple of hundred yards, after that I fairly routinely ignore it.
Unless I’m not getting it all, a small shunt backwards and hard steer right that will go easily. Minimal back end swing on that trailer I can’t even see why he went so far forward
A truck nav is only different from a car nav in terms of route restrictions. Not every road has a restriction and not every road without a restriction I’d want to take an HGV down.
The bit that impressed me is the tweet from the police force that is quoted in the paper.
Not exactly helpful from the police force, obviously they have never made any mistakes in their day to day jobs.
Walkern is a ■■■■■■■ ■■■■■ place to take a truck of any sort. I regularly deliver round that way, and can struggle in my baby 8 wheeler.
Anything out in the sticks, between Stevenage and the A10 gets google streetviewed the hell out of!
I load of farms regularly I always ask farmer the best way out and ring them to find best way in
