It has been settled out of court two years back .The driving couple received some compensation from security company involved which -they accepted
I’m not surprised that happened in the US, never heard of that happening here.
Although I was prevented from leaving a companies site by them parking a forklift infront of my lorry, never got physical, I was told to leave by the office as I was there to collect but it wasn’t ready and they weren’t happy about it!!!
got blocked in at a supermarket store once. told them to let me out they refused so i moved the lorry into the middle of the parking lot so no one could get in or out the car park took my card out and waked away
The security guards are definitely at fault here, they have no power to order people around. If they think you’ve stolen something all they can do is call the cops, they can’t detain you. If they forcibly detain you then you call the Sheriff’s office and they will come and set them straight.

Security can detain you here in the UK, its called citizens arrest, they can also use reasonable force to detain you until the police arrive!!

There are some YouTube videos of security getting very aggresive here in the UK, although not with drivers.
