Driver Awareness SCT

Hells teeth! the lunatics really have taken over the asylum whatever next ?

I’ve now got this certificate and on the bottom it says, “Due to safety regulations, access to DP World Southamptom will be refused if drivers have not completed and passed this survey.”

So when are they intending starting that and how are they going to police it?

First of July. Then you supposed to have certificate displayed on dash.
Get the felling this aint been thought through.

I think you’re right about the lack of thought. Today it’s been removed from the site again!

Now it’s back on there.

Right, I contacted Soton Docks today and enquired about their intentions to refuse access to drivers unless you have passed their assessment. This is the email they are sending out to hauliers:

April 2013

Dear VBS customer

Important safety update = Driver Awareness

Please be advised, to address the accidents happening internationally with
truck drivers while on a container terminal and in line with the global policy of DP World, we have changed and updated our safety policy for truck drivers to ensure they are familiar with our processes and safety regulations prior to arrival.

To ensure the safety of your drivers, and those around them, all hauliers now entering DP World Southampton will be required to have watched our VBS Driver Engagement Video ( classmarker.com/online-test/login ).

Both items can be located on the DP World Southampton website:

dpworldsouthampton.com/vbs/v … ent-video/

Drivers will have until the 1st July to have completed the Driver Safety Awareness Assessment. After this date only drivers who have successfully completed the assessment, demonstrated by displaying their Certificate of Achievement on their vehicle dashboards, will be permitted to work on the DP World Southampton site. Drivers who have not completed and passed the short assessment will be refused access into the terminal.

Hauliers are required to send DP World Southampton a list with all drivers
who may visit the site. This information will be used to cross reference the Driver Safety Awareness Assessment results.

Please be aware it is the responsibility of the haulier to ensure their core, and contract, drivers, who are expected to work on the DP World Southampton site, have completed the assessment with a 100% success rate.

If you have any questions or queries, please contact info@dpworldsouthampton.com or call 023 80 701701.

Yours sincerely

Steve McCrindle
Head of Operations,
DP World Southampton

Why don’t you think it’s thought through? Every question relates to going on the dock in a safe manner following their safety rules, it’s not like they have put any trick questions in the test!
All they are doing is covering there arses, just in case a driver does something stupid, in the compensation culture we live in now, who can blame them.

Yeah okay they’re covering their arses and I have no objections or concerns regarding that due to the culture we now live in.

The lack of thought concerned the hauliers that had not heard any mention of this coming in. They have put this on the website underneath their video with no explanation that it is going to be a compulsory requirement otherwise access is denied to drivers who haven’t completed and passed it. The first you know about being denied access to the terminal is when you see it on the certificate after passing the test. All in all there is a lack of thought on the webpage which could go into detail about the test and the importance of it rather than just adding a link to it and that’s it.

one thought - why is the test and video only in English ■■?

Again mate, highlights a lack of thought gone into it.

So you do this test online print of a certificate and you’re allowed on site? Has the world gone mental?

Whats to stop the office bod doing the test for all his drivers then printing out all their certificates for them?

Funny you should say that.

So when you get to dock gate you need the bit of paper thats been floating around on the dash since last visit.
Then to prove you are the person on certificate you will need to show some ID. Can you see where this is going.

Just completed this assessment and got 10 out of 12, it doesn’t tell me which two I got wrong and neither does it allow me to retake the test, if I re-click the link to the assessment all it displays are the test results and ‘Finished. Thank you’, so did I pass?

Update: No I didn’t pass, the pass mark is 100% and I got two wrong  Tried again today and the system allowed me to log in, and second time around after paying more attention to the video I managed to get all the 12 questions correct, (god I’m a genius :unamused: ) at the end of the test, having reached the pass mark, a link was displayed to a printable pass certificate… I’m so proud of myself!! :unamused:

I wonder if the system keeps a note of who’s actually passed or does it rely purely on the bit of printed paper? If it’s the latter then it would likely be easy enough to scan and print one for every driver, or simply setup a template and fill in the name. Not that I’m saying anyone should do this…

I have the certificate but have never once been asked to show it.

The certificate must be displayed in the windscreen at all times whilst in the terminal… apparently :unamused:

So why cant someone who passed the test put the answers up on the forum for us??

Let’s say we did that and you drove where you shouldn’t or did something you shouldn’t? Surely it’s better to know for sure. It’s not rocket science to pass, just watch the video first.

Or you could get the brainy driver in the yard to do everyone else’s, like they did at my previous job, he did 40 of them including his own.
