Driver assessment and digi cards?

Do I need to insert a digi card
as I’m not getting paid and doing no work.

When I did an assessment I didn’t need to use my card, the assessor just made a note of the mileage.
You don’t need a card for training, testing or assessments.

In short mate, if you are driving a HGV on the public highway you must insert a valid tacho disc or digicard. It’s the law mate.

Training still counts as work for the WTD mate

Copied from the DVLA website regarding tacho exemptions.

driving instruction or exams - vehicles used for driving instruction and examination. Includes instruction for renewal of Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)

I don’t see what the WTD has to do with it?

A driving assesment is not classed as instruction or exam/ test, it is as it says an assesment of your driving for a future employer, you are not on instruction nor are you having a test. The WTD relates to other work training within a structured company / environment, a driving assesment is none of these.

That is an exemption to which driver assessments do not fit in

If the assessment is for a job then it is not for licence acquisition or for dcpc hours

If you’re driving you’re working aren’t you? Payment is irrelevant, If you’re out on public roads you will need it in, anything else is open to abuse.
The place I work insist on putting it in. One chap didn’t want to as he says his boss would find out hed been for a new job when he downloaded it, they just said put it in or go home.

It’s a grey area

Not being paid
not employed
no goods be carried
I’m confused

Hiring a LGV over 7.5 for moving house or for simply ‘going for an empty jolly’ is under EU regs and RTD

Not grey at all , you could say its bright red for danger, no tacho/ digi card ,accident or collision ,police say tacho drive?? The rest is academic.

Not grey at all - the law is very clear

Being paid to drive or not has nothing to do with commercial driving
Tacho exemptions go on what the vehicle is being used for not what the driver gets for doing it or not
Empty or loaded = makes no difference

If you got stopped on a driving assessment by vosa what will happen.

Yes , or you ( that is the person driving the vehicle ) will be breaking the law if the tacho / digi card not in.

A digi card is for a vehicle and driver, so if you are not in a vehicle, you cannot possibly or physically put one into the slot, unless you want to lose it by putting it into an orrifice  so if your in a classroom, the answer is NO…if your in a vehicle over 3.5 ton the answer is YES.
