I’ve witnessed one such a driver crush the brand new VW of TM at Carol Stream KYB plant. It was very very stupid situation, but the guy decided to make a U turn where was impossible to be done.

Many Brits don’’ work nights let alone weekends, in US and in harvesting season is 24/7 work.
Also most trucks are manual and bigger, nothing similar in UK/EU. :grimacing:

only proper drivers need apply :grimacing: :grimacing:

Put that in TruckNet terms… Steering wheel attendants/limpers/foreigners/class 2 van drivers need not apply :grimacing:  :open_mouth:    :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :arrow_right: :grimacing: (something about the eaton twin splitter)

? >? now back to the original question… The custom contractor pays for everything ,visa etc …your driving test will be in one o their trucks so you greenhorns help each other out . you sleep in company supplied campers/rvs .grub supplied and you get paid and iirc at end off contract a bonus.
I am friends with a couple o guys that did this because o no work in uk in their area …as well as the farming side don’t forget highway construction /maintenance do this as well visa etc for the season.
Saffers, kiwis , irish, brits etc do this work ,and at the end you have time to take a roadtrip before coming home…nb.dont forget licences in certain US states are transferable to certain Canadian provinces. check expat forum part ,one thread on page 2 another on page 3 relating to custom contracting in the states .

on the Plus Side
You go over in April (usually) and Home in December. Thats 7 or 8 Times 2600.- Minimum (if bad Weather that you cant do much in the Fields)
If weather is good you get much higher Pay.
But anywhy. When you go home you have all the Money for your work at once. If you earn here double that much you wouldnt have that Money for xmas.
After Xmas you can go over to haul Grain. But that is then Paid as Truck Driver and not as Harvester :bulb:

So is that ‘2600 bucks/month’ for a whole shed load of hours, week in/out for 6 months of the year? £1800 odd/month working Stobart type hours??

Immigrant:
-expect minimum $2600.-/Month Taxfree the First Year

Thats £1830 a month or £425 a week which is less than you can earn here even with our higher rates of tax. I can take that home for doing less than 55hrs a week which is considerably less than you’ll be working over there for the same money.

Might be good if you want to do it for the experience of driving in the States but if you’re doing it for the money you may as well stay home.

I did the harvest USA back in 2002.
I enjoyed it and will go back when I retire for another season and would like to do OZ/NZ harvests too.
Its good craic and you’ll see some amount of country WELL off the tourist trail but you’ll certainly not get rich!!!
You do earn your money tax free and just leave it in your USA bank and use your USA debit card to spend it when back in UK!!![emoji6]
“Custom Cutter” in States will arrange H2A temp work visa and SSN and CDL/HAZMAT tests etc when you get there.

As Immigrant says (He’s talking sense for a change!!!) ALL Custom Cutters will provide accommodation in large caravans (campers) and most will provide 2meals/day prepared by wives who take pride in cooking for the crews.
This helps to “make up” the wages as the only thing you spend money on is touring around on “rain days” or waiting on crops to ripen.
There can be a “few” beers in local bars on similar type days!!![emoji106]

Today Hazmat(ADR) is only for people with green cards and US citizens, no work visa.

You can’t take the 5min hazmat multi-choice test on computer@ DOT office like we did when doing CDL??
How do the CCs move the service trucks around with the onboard “field fuel” diesel tanks then if the crews can’t take hazmat? ?
