The majority of our fleet are MB Axors, with several new ones coming in every month.
A good fleet motor and I,ve been content with all the models we’ve had since I’ve been working here,10 years this year,it’s what you get used to.
A few years ago,we had a couple of DAF CF’s,95 platers, the only two on the fleet.
I had one of the DAF’s last night, first time I,ve driven a CF since I did a bit for Pets at Home 10 years ago,and it was after doing a shift in that,I realised what crap steering is on the Axor compared to the Daf
On the motorway,in any tramlines in lane one and the Axors wont stay in a straight line, and getting them out of the ruts to move into lane 2 for an overtake is a conscious effort.
The CF I had last night, with half a million klicks on the clock, was a pleasure to drive, straight as a die, where ever you pointed it,it went,no drama.
One would have thought that all the big names in truck manufacturing would have the engineering ability to have sorted a problem like this out years ago.
as we allknow MB Axor is an insult to engineering

It’s amazing how something made out of metal can be so flimsy. I’m not a fan, I have been driving one for a month now and I can honestly say that the only thing I like about it is that the brushed metal dash reminds me of my toaster.

correct !!
To be frank, it is incredible that a company with as much engineering ability as MB even produces a vehicle as bad as the Axor, and has done for so many years. But I guess the profit margins are too good to ignore.
Along with these excuses for modern day trucks, where I work they have Scanias, Volvo FMs, and a few seriously old Daf CFs. The Axors are quite simply the worst performing vehicles on the fleet, and it doesn’t surprise me they only hire them in from Dawsons. When they buy, they get Volvos and they are light years ahead of the Mercedes muck.
The 04 Dafs are very old, but they perform and drive far better than the 62 Axors. In fact all of the “old” units drive better than the Axors.
Co-incidentally I’ve got a demo new Actros on Monday and I’m interested to see how different it is to the cheap and dangerous Axor.
