I have an old PC and I am still running 98SE
I have obtained a copy of Dreamweaver and Fireworks but it seems as though everything is geared to ME or XP
Has anyone got this and can I run it from 98?
I have plenty of spare capacity on my memory and hard drive.
I have contacted Macromedia, and the technical support seem to only know about the new sytems from Microscam
Hiya Wheelnut
I’ve used Dreamweaver MX on Windows 98 without much problem. I have unfortunatly succumbed to XP due to the usage of USB hard drives
but if you’re having problems I think I’ve got a spare 98 partition lying around somewhere…
What sort of problems are you having and what are you trying to end up with??
Cheers
I can load it and its fine until the very last section. about 99% I get either a message saying there is a file missing or I get a fatal error.
Theadvice I get from macromedia is try again or send it back. Err< I cant because it is a copy
That might be the problem, I will try and load it again at the weekend.
I am just trying to learn an alternative web design program. I did html and front page at college, just a new idea

to be honest dreamweaver adds far to much HTML… you are far better writing raw HTML in MS notepad or something similar
I am learning PHP at the moment and it is far easier to use notepad,

Have you tried repeatedly reinstalling the software over itself or have you uninstalled it first?
If not, try and uninstall it and then go and check the directory is properly deleted (and empty your bin) and then try again. Which file is missing, what version is it, and what was the fatal error.

I would agree with just using notepad and stuff, but have found that dreamweaver does have the facility to remove the useless addon bits and frontpage/microsoft stuff just leaves tons of junk you dont need…
I agree that front page etc is a lazy mans way of building a perfectly accepatble webpage, but I truly think that HTML days are done, it is far easier to write in PHP and far better for loading… I tried writng in XTML but that seems to have gone by the wayside somewhat.
I think that PHP being open source is the way most folks will go in future pure HTML is dead long live PHP
