Hej bma.you are a “Star” what a great drawing of a Leyland Octopus and trailer just like the combination I was “trailer mate” on in my late teens, the Octopus I was on was one of two in the T.Brady & Sons Ltd fleet,it had the Leyland 680 Power Plus engine,6 speed O/drive box and the heavy duty double drive Leyland axles. The trailer was a Crane single wheel drawbar (without headboard!) we mainly hauled Steel products such as Signode banding,Tin plate and also Cellophane paper as well as woodpulp and occaisional large reels of tissue paper, all the loads were sheeted and roped,no curtain siders in the '60’s !!This is a shot of the sister Octopus to the one I was on and it is pictured here in late 1961 when brand new.The second one was delivered in early '62 and this one,the one I was mate on,pulled a trailer all it’s operational life except for the last few monthe in 1968 when it worked solo prior to disposal. It was a great motor that was driven by a fine driver,Eric Postlethwaite, who taught me so much about the “job” and we have remained great friends since those early days.Cheers Bennku,Dennis.

Nice drawing of an LWB Guy Big J8 bma.,this was quite a rare motor in it’s day,the 8 wheelers were mainly shorter wheel base tipper chassis and were always Single drive axles from memory.Cheers Bennku Dennis.

The name sign on the cab roof should say R.Hanson & Son!!! who ran probably the largest, smartest, fleet of 8 wheeler Atkinson tippers in the UK years ago, they were painted a mid green colour and were engaged in the transport of thousands of tons of coal from the Yorkshire coalfields.Hansons replaced their fleet regularly and their seconhand motors were always in big demand and could be seen all over the UK and recognised by their distinctive Bulk Alloy bodies.Cheers Bennku,Dennis.
thank,s for information, and tips dennis ,cheers benkku

More great artwork bma, you should think about doing a series of drawings to make into a calender for 2014. It would make a great deal of money for the Children in Need charity or something similar. I’m sure TNUK could help with the logistics of this. It would help to fill their working day!!!
Regards Kev.

I can’t see why the EU need to be consulted, if one or more nations want make their transport more efficient. I like the 6kW/tonne requirement- Scandinavian makes lead the 600+bhp market with their 16 litre engines, so it gives them an advantage. I do not believe that this represents “protectionism”. It forces the other manufacturers/countries to catch up, so it effectively aids competition, rather than hinders it. It was the same story with the Swedish crash test rules- the EU tried to make out that it was a hindrance to competition between the makes. What a lie- the only reason for market competition is that it speeds up progress. If a single country wants to take a lead on safety, performance or load capacity, they should be free to legislate for it. The EU contains some stupid politicians.
PS The Routeman looks good.
