Drawbar unit

Were you in a red low cab Scania?

I drove for Tufnells , when you got to Sheffield you just drove in building and they decoupled for you , no reversing , then when you got to brieley hill ( I’m sure we ran solo from Sheffield - b/ h ) you changed units and just connected up tri ( no reversing again ) , then got back to Newark and parked it up by bays , no reversing again , did Northampton but for the life of me can’t remember what I did there , think it was on brackmills , but only did it once and just can’t remember , but Sheffield / b/ h was a piece of ■■■■

I would be happy to keep on them, never driven one before today but pleasantly surprised at how easy they are. I would say easier than an artic, just seems to go where you point it without any surprises. Mine was already coupled though I would imagine it is a bit more of a precise maneuver required.

I can’t remember any issues going forward to be honest , it was alright but I was on agency , turned up one night at Newark to be told there driver had cancelled his hol so didn’t need me ( right stroppy git ) , so went back to Grantham in the knowledge I’d get 8 hrs pay anyway , got home , phone rings and its agency, I know what you’re answer will be but Tufnells have a run to London now ( I guess they found something when they realised it was going to cost them 8 hrs for nothing ) , no I’ve been there once tonight , I didn’t like the blokes attitude and I’m paid 8 hrs anyway , I thought that would be your reply , 5 mins later agency ring , what if they bring the truck to your house or road nr your house :open_mouth: , no I’ve already said I’m getting 8 hrs , ok , they rang a few times but even though job was ok I didn’t like blocked attitude so never drove for them again

The night guys don’t have to do any reversing its just trunking.
Day guys have to drop trailers off at customer premises to be loaded up with collections, also do deliveries in them occasionally.

I reversed mine and found it to be better than an artic, only problem I had was it felt like a giant pendulum swinging about, but I put that down to the load of straw. All in all I like the drawbar units.

I used to drive a wagon an A frame trailer for Alstons the furniture people at Ipswich if anyone can remember what they looked like, right pain in the arris to reverse but you get used to it (eventually) !!

did you ever wear a white suit " a la Saturday night fever ", when going out for a beer at night raymondo when wae Alstons as I mind yin o the drivers did, had A fair few nights drinking wae him at grab a granny nights. :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Two red hay trucks came flying past me northbound on the A1 this afternoon, I could’ve sworn that the tangs where driving them due to the speed they where going, both bearing the registration *****hay

Punchy Dan:
0mine is possibly the worst example to drive / reverse ,when Loaded it’s like it’s glued to the road ,the main problem is it’s not a rear steer and that it’s a spread axle .

It can’t be that difficult to reverse Dan, after all you can manage it!!!

I was up the A1 today but it wasn’t me as I was hanging on for grim death terrified at a top speed of 54 mph.
