Drawbar question

Someone I worked with had this 102 restriction on his licence, he decided to go for his C+E proper to drive artics, and ended up doing his training and test in a wagon & drag! a vehicle that he was already licenced to drive!

just a quick question.

if you have C+E cat restriction 102 is there a maximum weight wag and drag you can drive?

cheers daz.

Some of those that had HGV classes 2 or 3 also had W&D entitlement but they did had not passed a HGV class 1 test for artic so when the change came from HGV to LGV they ended up with CE but with a 102 restriction that meant they could drive drawbars (W&Ds) but not artics.

HGV/LGV terminology.
Using the terms ‘Class’ & ‘HGV’ will get many confused as they are no more.
LGV terms are C1. C & C+E and they have a different meaning to the old terms.
The change was 01/01/1997

OLD -
HGV class 3 - rigid over 7.5 tonnes with 2 axles
HGV class 2 - rigid over 7.5 tonnes with more than 2 axles
HGV class 1 - ARTIC
HGV classes 2 & 3 drivers may also have entitlement to drive Wagon & Drags

NEW -
LGV C - any rigid vehicle over 7.5 tonnes (including an artic unit)
LGV C+E - any C which has a trailer - be it Drag or artic trailer.

HGV classes 2 & 3 drivers who have entitlement to drive Wagon & Drags will have a code 102 (Drawbar trailers only)
Now here come the ‘funny’ bit  - A driver with the 102 code can drive a W&D to the DSA LGV test centre on their own - put L plates on it - do a LGV C+E test in it - if they pass then they have full LGV C+E so can now drive ARTICS - if they fail they can still drive out of test centre on their own as they still have a W&D licence :exclamation:

Thanks for the reply Rog, I got it…

Strange old world we live in… I lived in Ireland fo years and a provisional car driver could drive alone in a car withe L plates, fail a test, then drive home…!

That would go some way to explaining the vid that was posted where the Garda fined the chick for the seatbelt thing but then sent her on her merry way with her L plates on display.

Thanks ROG
I was waiting to find out what 102 ment
i thought if u didn’t pass your C+E with the 102 they took back the drag part off you because you was unsafe to be on the road with it (i was told)
but you learn something new every day
