Draw bar v Artic

So now draw bar is better?
J F Pearce and Sons are recruiting class 1 drivers on our new improved pay structure.
The following positions are available.
Class 1 drawbar driver (tramper) £48-£50k per year. (days £45-£47k)
Class1 artic driver (tramper) £46-£48k per year. (Days £44-£46k per year)
These pay rates are wholly achievable and are not inflated to attract drivers. If you are interested in joining a market leading company and becoming one of our team please email David.cross@jfpearcehaulage.com or call 01749 880456 or send us a private message , thanks

Some of your Foden Alpha 1 parts are on mine now

Not necessarily. I expect the pay difference is because their work involves more [zb]ing about on the draw-bar, eg. having to drop the trailer to get into places.

It may be harder to recruit drivers for draw-bar trailers as well

I would think they are paying extra for productivity, you can get more bricks & blocks on a drawbar than an artic. :sunglasses:

They used to do a lot of work for us and the artics tended to do 1 drop to large sites or merchants yards whereas the wagon and drags did multi drop including deliveries to private houses. We got rid of all our artics in the end and had all W&Ds as we could easily give away all the artic work, leaving our own vehicles to do the better paying multi drop work. We were own account and transport was run as a service, but sadly it was eventually outsourced and the job went rapidly down hill!

As a class 1 driver that has never done wagon & drag, I’d say this seems right as imho it’s an extra aquired skill, so is rightly rewarded.

We have road trains at our place which carry either two 18 ton boxes or three 7.5 ton boxes. What a messing around dropping and picking the boxes up. Constantly unhitching the draw bar to get one on the truck then the other two on the draw bar. too much ■■■■■■■ about for my liking.
