Just seen DPD adverts and it states they have just upped their rates. Was £11.69 per hour last time I was there. Anyone know the new rates ?
Typical company that likes people to guess what they pay, then wonders why they can’t get any drivers . Don’t know about anyone else but if the pay isn’t listed on the ad then I assume it will be [zb] and move onto the next job ad.
If it was £11.69 then it’s going to be £12 now or slightly under imo. Still not enough to suffer their completely OTT H&S policies and having a bunch of cameras monitoring everything you do behind the wheel.

Told rates at interview. £11.98 then 1.5 after 40 hrs. No cameras in cab. No stress or rush to get job done. And as for not stopping… Just tell them you stopped for break/toilet and need a stop code.

If there is no rushing then why do they drive like idiots?

Quicker you get there the longer you get to sleep whilst you’re waiting for your return trailer.

£11.98. Hardly a huge increase. Still, better than nothing.
As for the cameras, I believe the newer ones have them. Lytx supplied.

Nope. No driver facing cams in any trucks. 66 plate onwards have forward cameras

‘‘Stop Code’’ ffs.
Why not just sack the passenger who does ‘‘stop codes’’ and other micro management pointless crap, share his wages from his non job with the drivers,.and allow drivers to stop for their breaks and bog when they want to…and then only challenge them if they take the Mickey.
I stopped asking for permission or to be excused to go to the bog when I left primary school.
Once you start accepting this sort of dog ■■■■ as being ‘‘normal’’ is when you realise (or should) that they have succeeded getting into your head and into their ways of thinking.

Meant to say… if you can get through to traffic office on phone lol, and yes a few do take the mickey… but as i said, you don’t need to ask for permission.
Stop, have your break/coffee/whatever , then call in that you had to stop for break/coffee/whatever and need a 4 digit code.
It’s called CYA.
Same with road closures/delays, phone in.

It will be security related i imagine with a bit of scheduling maybe mixed in. I suspect they’ve had their fingers burned before and as a reaction went way over the top to try and stop it happening again.

Exactly. I imagine what most companies with high value loads do. Trucks and trailers tracked, timed collections.
I had the following offer from an agency for DPD recently:
£11.70 days
13.89 nights
17.55 saturday / sunday
19.74 sat/sun nights
nights after 16:00
50 hours guaranteed per week
nothing about overtime
Although I strongly suspect these are temporary ‘peak period’ rates until 1st week of January
Ok fair point about security aspects…but.
I’ve just come up to Scotland from Bristol yesterday with a full load of spirits.
I always check when I leave who is behind me, and if they are either there for a while, or turn off and then re follow me. (A mixture of paranoia and street wiseness )
Stopped 2x yesterday afternoon for a coffee, once for toilet…all good.
Parked up in ‘safe’ (as you think it would be) truckstop overnight, had time off,.(9 as it was a Saturday, better for me)
3 Greggs coffee stops today. (btw every time I got out, I made myself fully aware of surroundings, and parked in busy as poss public area)
Later stopped MSA for a 45 break, and a kip…,.was woken by awareness of somebody hovering outside (got knocked up by some 2 hat trying to sell me knock off tv.s, initial reaction when disturbed was to grab my baseball bat, (told you I’m paranoid )… but told him to ■■■■ off (politely.)
Got here with no dramas
Never felt the urge once to ring office, inform or ask permission for anything tbh, but that’s the old style initiative way of doing things…which I much prefer.
I’d hate to be micro managed,

I think someone had mentioned in a similar thread about courier companies that the reason they want you to call ahead before stopping/being stationary for longer than a few minutes is so they know you’re not being forced to stop/being held at knife(gun)point while being reliefed from the contents of your trailer. Maybe they have live trackers and if a truck is parked for more than X minutes an alarm goes off in the transport office so they need to find out why it stopped or call the police if they can’t contact the driver. A ‘‘panic’’ button in the trucks and/or on the driver’s belt would do instead but these are most likely more expensive to implement and maintain (I imagine they would come with a monthly subscription cost as well)

A Dutch outfit I once worked for had panic buttons fitted (never had call to use it)
That is a far better system than being checked ‘with this ‘Why have you stopped’’ ■■■■■■■■ on the phone , and/or having to account for stopping for a ■■■■.
Definitely more condusive with being treated like an actual grown up imo.

You work for them then ?
I haven’t drove for them for a while. I know some of the 15 plates had cameras and assumed all of them after that would have them. I was told though that they’d installed driver facing cameras. If you say no then that’s good, they’re unnecessary IMO.

Yep, and some agency saying microlise tablets are spying on them
There is no front camera on them, only on rear, and just enough memory to take 1 or 2 pics.
Ive been there 6 months now.
No in cab cameras. Not had to stop once yet for a ■■■■, make sure I go before I set off! The drive isnt far enough to have to stop anyway (2.5hrs)
You pretty much get left to your own devices. As long as you get on with your run I can go a whole week without even talking to any ‘management’.
Hours sometimes long as return trailer often gets delayed BUT the pay more than makes up for it. Easily pushing 40k this year for afternoon shift.
Also one of the most generous companies you will ever work for. Lots of free food at hubs for events (halloween, bonfire night etc), and free gifts through the post.
Best company Ive worked for.

I think you are missing the point. This accounting for comfort breaks, calling in for a “stop code” etc has naff all to do with pencil-pushing “non-jobbers” spying on drivers or being control freaks and very little to do with security. Pretty much the entire business model of the likes of DPD, Royal Mail etc relies on timely deliveries of millions of packages, with potentially very significant penalties/compensation being paid out if they don’t meet their delivery promises, with most of the transport links in the chain being run to tight schedules. It is vitally important that all delays (no matter how trivial) are known about so that adjustments further down the line can be made. Those “stop codes” are the drivers’ proof that he has called in the delay and, far from being a stick to beat him with, they are a formal acknowledgement that the delay has been reported and are now the responsibility of the “non-jobber” or others on higher pay grades. A Get Out of Jail Free card if you like, because that code is the proof that he called in the delay.
