Ok it didn’t work on this occasion, but that could be the answer to these clowns hitting low bridges, …traffic lights off triggered by height sensors, brilliant idea. 
Ok those who are full on idiot would still hit them, but surely it would cut down bridge bashing by a fairly high percentage…no?

Exactly, because most people would spend that 5 mins waiting for their truck to shrink to the right height. Or for the bridge to raise itself up on its hydraulic lift.
Notice how they don’t shut down half the city while they get the truck out and the traffic keeps flowing? Stoopid Americans they know nothing about HnS

The 4.0 metre, 13.0 foot Blackwall tunnel northbound on the A102 is a prime example, despite height sensors, the full flashing vehicle divert signs and enough signage to sink a battleship it still gets its fair share of attempted entries, the good thing is that the barriers drop, so overheights cant get lodged in the tunnel anymore. There is a hell of a reception commitee for those that do attempt it !

It needs somebody who is really clever to come up with an idiot proof system that works in every case on every bridge.
It will need to be something special as there are some top notch Grade 1A specialised idiots in this job with licences. 
Preferably something that involves towers and machine guns, that will be the only answer with some of em.
The Aussies seem to on the right track - I’m fairly sure this has been posted on TN previously, I think there were some comments about the female presenter’s name

Notice the jaywalker that ran across the oncoming traffic has time to stop and get the camera phone out.
I’ve seen compilation footage of this bridge and the crashes before now, it looks like both these vehicles are going faster than they used to do previously when the bridge was lower, I can’t help wondering if the speed limit has also been raised.
Either way, given that this bridge is internationally well-known, it’s amazing there are still people using this road who don’t know about the (lack of) height clearance.
