Muckaway:
Don’t know about your neck of the woods Pete, but of the subbies I encountered in my (thankfully short) tenure with the Red Arrows, the most blinged, “keepin’ it lit” brigade whinged about rates the most. The quiet guys with the basic motors just plodded on and were the best blokes to work with.
We didn’t really have any like that Nathan, most kept things simple with no signwriting etc as you didn’t want your name all over the truck when nipping through weight limits etc! The only ‘blinged’ trucks were owned by the Tarmac od’s from Bayston Hill, Shrewsbury, who came up to our place on night work and blinded us on the narrow lanes with about 1000 watts of lighting. Lads like Rob (1970 Commer) and Dan Punchard will agree with me that that Scania would have a few scrapes down the side from the overgrown trees and shrubbery that lined the lanes to Ballidon quarry, most of us moved the mirrors in tight against the cab otherwise they had a very short lifespan!
Pete.
S.F.Dale will be out ordering a fleet of them as we speak Pete, can you imagine Gordon doing 7 a day up to Products with that lorry, he might waft a rag round the dash once a week.
Martin:
And I thought that showing blue lights to the front was illegal on a none-emergency vehicle, I had to take my blue LED name plate out when the truck went for MoT…
Red lights are illegal on the front of a vehicle. Non flashing blue lights are legal on the front of a vehicle.

Gordon would need to do 8 trips at least with that thing Rob, it will be losing over 2 ton per load against the Foden! Pushing it a bit with the weekly dust down though, if he could still find the tacho then it wouldn’t need dusting just yet!
It is an ugly thing, all out of proportion to my way of looking at it but whatever floats your boat I guess? Coming to a truck show near you soon no doubt…go on, you know you want one…
showed the picture tae my boss …the first thing he says is .i thought things were bad in the uk,if you turned up in a quarry in that over here the first thing to happen is a $2 a ton reduction in the rate .
lol you would have to tell the loader operator the same as a local o/o when he turned up with a new trailer at the quarry i run too…you see this hammer its going through your windscreen if you hit my body !! …and yup every time he got loaded for the season the hammer lay on the crosswalk.
jimmy.
"orrible innit. Mind you, if it was the difference between working or the dole, I’d be in it, but I’d wear blinkers and earplugs so I couldn’t hear or see the ■■■■ taking.
Chewyboy:
Would love to see this try and tip on one of the london or essex tips driver would be crying I think r or g cab highline looks good as an 8 wheel tipper topline cab looks rediculous
God knows how you would tow it with all that crap on the front. The d8 pushing at the rear i guess.

yes you are right in what you are saying but a lot of the problems are wages ,price of diesel ,rates for jobs etc etc,so how on earth can u moan about such things then throw all that money at a truck for it to look like that, something doesnt ad up does it
I think there is certainly a lot to be said about image. Maybe the Doyle’s lot think/have proof that going to such extremes with their trucks wins & keeps them business. For me a nice livery, a bit of TLC & a regular wash is all a wagon needs to impress.
