Downtons wreaking havoc in Cornwall

Afternoon all,

For those of you who dont know/remember the old A30 through Cornwall and the Iron bridge at Goss Moor, sorry, but for those who do remember, I came across an issue there for the first time in ages.

I assume the poor driver was following his Satnav to Newquay and was told to exit at Victoria and follow the old route. Anyway, I got the the turning that I need to take at the crossroads just before the Iron Bridge, with a left turn to Roche (where I live), right to Padstow or straight towards Newquay. They were stopped about an inch from the left turn, and in the dark and the stinking weather we are having in Cornwall tough to judge the bend.

A HGV wouldnt make that left hand bend under normal circumstances, and there would have been no chance of going towards Padstow with one of the villages that needed going through.

If any of you guys used to drive that route, what were your options?

If you are heading south turn left before the bridge, go into Roche, turn right and follow that road, it runs parallel with the old A30 and you come back on the A30 about 2 mile south of the bridge where the railway crossing is.
Going north do the opposite.

Would that be turning off the old A30 at Victoria to go through Roche?

From the position they were in yesterday, they would have had to have reversed back up the road to get into a position to make the bend I assume.

What havoc was wreaked?
