Anyone got any up to date info about Downton’s at Preston Brook, Runcorn??

Last I heard it was around £9 per hour and you could get Mon-Fri days. Any meal allowance or anything?

£5 a day meal allowance.

Cheers Ginge.

Fuel bonus of £100 a month if you hit the targets…

How achievable is that in your view Vadar?

To be fair it’s not that hard at all… use of cc…As much as possible…Avoid harsh braking…Engine idling. And green band driving…Sounds alot i know…But it is’nt once you get the hang of it…

I did a stint there, work aint bad but money is ■■■■. Left purely cos i needed to earn more than they was paying, couldn’t afford to stay there.

I wonder if they kinda tied their hands behind their backs when taking on the defunct C&H driver base and trailers… Since the “Merger” - a lot of drivers seem to have up sticks and left for the same reasons depicted above.

I’ve worked out of (now also defunct) Aylesford Newsprint and Chatham Docks, usually running into Tilbury as well. There doesn’t seem to be enough work to go around for the walking floor drivers these days either, but the general haulage aspect of it tends to make what work you do get varied, and therefore educational. I didn’t think much of the “dustcart” work on days, but the night runs with the magazines were much better.

Thanks for the replies fella’s. Got an assessment drive there tomorrow.

Iceland gig is starting to annoy me, it’s all starting to go onto pallets instead of cages.

Make your own mind up mate but I went from liking the job to it getting me really down,I grew to hate the place the people and the petty regimes.
The money could be £20 an hour and I still would not go back.

Hmmnn. Were you a day man terrier?

Yes out of Yorkshire area, was a tramper then day man but went in to Preston brook almost daily

Done 4 hours at Tilbury… Tackle and especially Trailers are Sxxxt…My impression was that they are so profit focused, that as well as paying fools wages, they can’t even be bothered maintaining their equipment… ( took me and fork truck driver, and 1 more driver to open the curtain,… Embarrassing or what…)

mutley:
They opened a depot near me so I asked one of their drivers what the score was, he said £8ph right through in the week, £19 night out and £5 a day dinner money, extras for weekend but I can’t remember what it was

Some it like this management is pants I worked for them never again

Other thing is they think they are so perfect and actually set the standards for the industry as a whole.
Have a big harsh breaking incident, that’s it the jobs worth driver trainer has you in the office saying you should of planned the situation better, even pin pointing the road on Google Earth saying that in no circumstances should you need to harsh break on that road.
Fuel figures are put on a league table where it looks like your a naughty boy if your near the bottom.
Don’t do this and don’t do that is all you hear from driver trainers etc,but then planners still push you to the limit.
I know some of there management lurk on here so I’m been careful what I write.
My depot had a good manager but that was the only positive of the job.

Eager beaver Iceland home delivery drivers are on 8.70 an hour if your interested?? Haha

Yep. And always park in our bloody way when we are delivering Damo!!

Are you not ■■■■■■ off with this increase in pallets thing?

Yeah they do take the mick! I took my break on a loading bay other day just to ■■■■ them off haha

No not really mate I actually prefer pallets most of our cages have square wheels anyway. I’m going on a later start time so might see you in the mornings, still in the stobrats jacket??
