Surely if it’s agency or subbing into downtons, then yes - you’ll be laid off after Christmas. For full-timers though, the pay seems going rate for up north, and the day rate a bit low for down here. £11 for nights seems fair enough though. Why on earth would anyone want to work for £8 tramping if nights are on £11 though?C&h day rate drivers are on more than the £8 an hour out of chatham, Aylesford and Tilbury though.

Although their are 2 pay scales at aylesford a C&H one and and old dhl one theirs nothing between them ive not been given notice and ain’t heard the old dhl boys have either thier are a lot of rumours goin about. but 95% untrue it’s business as usual .so at worse they will be brought on the same pay structure as C&H but they will loose nowt if that’s the case
What does DHL have to do with anything ex-Charles Gee related at Aylesford pray tell?

I’ve also heard downtons don’t want the contract next year so ain’t gonna reapply?
Like I said lots of rumours 95% untrue . can’t see why they will have paid x millions then give up on C&H 's biggest contract

That might well be true of the European work out of there. But I doubt it.Would’nt see why they would’nt want the domestic work though.

Don’t know about Downtons. But not a high turnover at C&h.Lot of long serving drivers there.

Comes as a package and the mill won’t split it. I believe it’s been asked before
The big advantage of buying C&H is the specialist trailers. No way Downtons are going to mothball them - unless it was specifically to “remove competition” from the market place, which in turn is only worth doing IF you intend to pick up the contract!
The rest of the business minus those trailers (eg the Euro work) might be better off shifted to downtons own fleet, which may or may not mean curtains (not curtainsiders!) for the Euro trampers that work there… There are enough close to retirement age though to absorb such “natural wastage” I would have thought.

I don’t know how old you think we are mate lol .there are still quite a few trailers about that are rented by or have something to do with the mill .Regardless it’s one contract all or nothing as the dispatch and the in house shunting is also run buy who ever holds the contract it would be an absolute nightmare to split .All the euro work is done on those system trailers due to every delivery we do in Europe has to come out of the back door via skates any jobs that don’t require this are subbed out to the likes of skats ect . I personally think Downtons will keep it and tender for it again . If not why have they just taken delivery of 30 odd euro trailers in C&H livery witch only the Mercs can pull legaly in Europe that Downtons could have left to rot in a field . So hopefully that will squash another rumour about the Mercs going in a hurry. As for curtains for the euro boys their is enough uk work there for them to do. It will be curtains for agency’s and subbies and the trucks that are called in from other depots to cover the uk work . You have to remember some of the guys here in the mill are on there 5 change of employer while working here so have heard all these rumours before

I looked at that and my first thought was “that’ll be a ■■■■■ to recover”!
Don’t look as bad as I thought it might.
