Downtons Avonmouth (accolade)

Hi,

I have been offered to,work for downtowns on the accolade contract full time through an agency, on the phone the agency made it sound great as they always do, I am very tempted as the money way good and the work sounded great.

Has anyway here had any expierince with the accolade contract with Downtons, the chap from the agency said it was going to be straight trucking to Farnham and back, home every night and not pushing my hours. Sounds to good to be true??

Thanks in advance.

Hi Bristol88.
I don’t have any idea what Downtons are like to work for but I do know that from my experience you cannot believe a word agencies tell you. There is no such thing as a “full time job” via an agency. They just tell you all the bull you want to hear, sign you up then you’re just another phone number on their long list of other mugs that believed everything they were told. But I suppose if you are happy with a shift here and a shift there and doing the cr#p jobs nobody else wants then that’s fine.

Hi Mickey

Thanks for the advice, sounds like you have had bad expieriance with agency’s, I do agency work out of choice, I am signed up with 2 agency’s in Bristol and I can’t say a bad thing about them. I work Monday to Friday inc bank holidays tue-fri on a DHL contract trunking to Swansea and Modays for ASDA, whenever I have been cancelled within 6 hours of the start of my shift they still pay me for eight hours. In return I never let them down and give plenty of notice if I am going to be unavailable. I deal with the same people every day and are always happy to help if I rarely have any concerns.

It seems to me that they like to hang on to keen outgoing drivers and will bend over backwards to keep you happy. Unless I ever got offered full time employment direct with ASDA then I will probably stay an agency a long while yet.

I just wanted to reply with something a bit positive about agency’s I know that there are some bum company’s out there, but there are some decent ones aswell and drivers should not be put off agency work if it comes to it.

Many thanks.

The Accolade job is a doddle even to shops rdcs and cash and carries

When I first went on for an agency after retiring twelve years ago, they gave me some shifts at Pets at Home,(Downton’s transport).
The work was great and the money was probably more than they are paying today, £16/hour for Sundays!.
I worked as I always work, conscienciously and legal, two drops north east and a collection on the way home are a piece of ■■■■ to do in a shift, but the TM said their own drivers would have a night out on it!.
After doing two shifts for them I was offered a full time job, and they rang the agency a time or two to ask if I would work full time, but the agency said the same as I said, no thanks, I’m semi retired and only work two shifts a week.
That was twelve years ago, don’t know what they’re like to work for now, but if you do a good job, as I’m sure you do, you may be surprised!
