downrating

hi all can anyone see sense in this

car hire company (accident management) buys a class 2 transporter
down rates it to a 7.5 so that the only class 2 driver they have cant hold them to ransom !!!
surely it would be cheaper to get a 7.5 in the first place
in my opinion the class 2 will weigh more than a 7.5 and so the load margin will be less !!

they will pay more for a class 2
pay to get it down rated
with the out come that it can carry less weight than the 7.5s that they already have

am I missing something or is this totally illogical ■■?

It could be they are looking at maybe getting a better price for a vehicle that can be uprated when they sell it on. Maybe the larger vehicles are more readily available than the smaller ones at the moment. Maybe they have down plated it for cheaper insurance and tax reasons at the moment but have the option to uprate it later should the need arise? Don’t know if it is illogical in this case but there are logical reasons for doing it.

Are you the class 2 driver in question?

no i left a year ago but my best mate is the driver in question
just over a year as a class 2 holder and never driven one since the day he passed his test !!!

waste of money ■■?

by the way its a second hand truck not a new one
cant be a LEZ thing as all other 7.5s are 52 plate or younger
still cant make any sense in my head about it !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Could simply be that the larger vehicles are more readily available at a better price on the second hand market than 7.5t vehicles.
