Few of us were chatting in the canteen after work tonight and the subject of downloading digicards came up,(started by the fact our downloader is in the office and can only be accessed during office hours
)
Anyway a question came up that none of us could figure the answer out…
If you travel abroad and are out of the country for a signifcant amount of time, say 3 or 4 months, for example when doing RnR tours or exhibition work.
How do you go about downloading your digicard within the time allowed, (we have to do ours at max 28 days, not sure if this is max amount or just company thing)
In the old days I’ve done several months out of the country but just posted tachos back or passed them on to another company driver to take back.This was when digital tachos were the clear disc used in tachoheads

Ask one of our Eastern European colleagues they must be away for weeks at a time, they will know exactly what to d

You can get mobile card readers that you can take with you in the cab which can also download from the head unit. Siemens also do a gprs mobile module which bounces the info back to base automatically.
Now you know!
There are now download devices which allow drivers to download cards and send the data back to the depot either via a suitable wifi connection or via a gprs signal over the mobile network. They think of evertything these days. We have a few customers who do it this way, some even send the vehicle unit data this way also.

I also learned recently about the AS24 card readers at the fuel sites in Europe, I think those DKV fax machines will probably have been adapted by now.
thanks for that guys another mystery solved (thanks to those pesky kids!

Interesting thread !
I learn something new every day on this site
OK not every day but some days
our yard has a load of hand held downloaders they normally issue one per tour to get it done while we are away
