Doubt about daily hours

hi fellows

I’m fairly new as lorry driver and as I’m still learning the ropes i’ve got a basic question about hours.

DSA guide says:
“a day is defined as any period of 24 hours beggining when you start other work or driving after the last day or weekly rest period, The maximun daily hours you may drive is 9.”

so i understand that if I started a day at 7am, followed by its driving and rest periods, I only could start the next shift not before 7am. is that correct? even though my 11 hours rest period ended at 5 or 6… should I wait till 7?

thanks in advance and keep it real bruvs

No you can start again as soon as your rest is completed. If that is a 9 hr reduced rest or a full 11 hr. The rules only state that the rest has to be completed within the 24 hr period from when you started that day. If you started at 7 am and worked till 7 pm and you had avaliable a reduced rest, and you needed or wanted to start early you could go again at 4 am the following day

A day is not defined in the drivers hours regulations (EC) 561/2006 as any period of 24 hours, and the daily driving period is the accumulated driving done between daily rest periods.

Within a period of 24 hours from the start of a shift you must have completed a daily rest period, a new period of 24 hours starts when you complete a daily or weekly rest period, or when you start a new legal shift if you prefer to see it that way.

If you start work at 07:00 and finish at say 17:00 and have a regular daily rest period (11 hours) you could start a new shift at 04:00 the following day.

So in the scenario you’ve mentioned, no you would not necessarily have to wait until 07:00 to start a new shift.

I don’t know anything about a DSA guide, but I would recommend that you get your information from VOSA’s own free booklet Rules on Drivers Hours and Tachographs

Thank you very much guys for the useful replies. . As clear as a day.
