Tommorow I have a new driver running with me, I have teach him and assess him when he’s driving etc. So the only time I will be driving is from my house to meet him, I’m and around the quarry and then once I drop him off I will drive home. Now my tacho is the behind speedo type with only one driver slot and knob. So am I right in thinking I have to keep swapping. Or does he not need one as he is training be not being paid

think you’ll find you can still put 2 cards …I don’t know of a tacho that wont take 2 cards … even the paper type you best have a look see
that’s kin OLD lol must be one of the 2nd generation ones. I can remember them when I 1st started driving just after the log book was abolished so I take back what I said

I don’t know what you mean
Haha. What makes me laugh about me assessing this guy is iv only been driving hgv for 8 weeks
Put your tachocard in when you are driving then fill the back in manually for the rest of the time with an explanation that there is only 1 tacho slot
Thank you ROG so other lad needs to use one too

I remember the version from 7.5t days that had a steering wheel position for the mode switch too, and if I remember right it didn’t automatically record driving mode. That chart could happily show you were resting doing 90 kph…

Yes - he puts his card in when driving etc and then like you fills in any other bits manually

Makes me glad I only have to put a card in the tacho looks older than gods dog lol
Bringing this one back up again. I’m double manning again today on a different truck tho mine is in for engine oil leak to be sorted. Now this new truck has the cassette type tacho, Driver one is in the top and driver 2 underneath. So driver one starts the day off driving and I’m on POA, the machine won’t leave it on other work keeps switching over on its own. So then driver 1 had to stop driving as he’s not familiar with loading in this quarry. So we swap over I put him on POA and me other work. I start driving and it switches driver one on to driving, and me back to POA. What am. I doing wrong?
Surely you have to swap the discs over?
How else can the head know who is driving?

this ^^^
In all cases whether it be digi or analogue the drivers must swap card places so that the one driving is in the tacho driver position
Ahhh yeah course, so the bottom slot is just like a holder. I Wasn’t sure if it had double heads(top and bottom). Thank you both
