Double Manning

Can someone please clarify the EU tacho regs regarding double manning for the maximum spreadover, driving time etc etc etc.

EC Regs require that the crew of a double manned vehicle have 8 hours continuous rest in 30 hours. Like single manned journeys, the clock starts ticking when you commence driving or another activity following the end of a daily or weekly rest period. By default that means you have a daily work/drive limit of 22 hours before you must start the rest period.

The driving and mid shift break requirements are exactly the same as when single manned;
4.5 hours driving then 45 minutes break
9 hours driving (extendable twice a week to 10 hours)

From earlier posts; don’t forget that the driver is always ‘number 1’ on the tacho, therefore you have to change charts over when drivers swap. Same goes for digital tachos, you have to swap the cards from slot 1 to slot 2. Whilst there is nothing to say that the co-driver couldn’t take his mid shift break whilst the other is driving, on the modular (cd type tachos) and digital, when the vehicle is moving the number 2 record will be ‘availability’ (square box). So with these tachos you will have to stop and take 45 minutes at some stage so you can both show your mid shift break.

I used to double man from Leicestershire to Paris and back on food groupage and by the end of a week to say you were knackered was putting it politely.

Thanks for the info mate, its much appreciated.
