My partner suggested I come on to the forum to see what people’s views are on double manned husband and wife teams.
I am currently workings towards my Cat C+E licence and hoping to be up and running by May 2016. What we can’t seem to find a lot of informations on is whether or not There are still opportunities for husband and wife teams (partner has 20 years + exp). We have a contact in Europe but as yet don’t know what rate he would be able to offer. My partner used to work form Carr Brothers years ago and at that time they used double manning teams a lot, does anyone know if this is still the case or if there are any other companies anyone knows of that still have double manned teams?
Also, any double man teams out there (husband and wife particularly) that has any insight into what to expect and any tips to survive away in a tiny cab with your other half. I have spent a fair amount of times with my partner on his truck learning the ropes and have loved it. Although I get stuck in and pull pallets off etc… I am aware that the reality of it being my permanent job may be somewhat different.
Any advice or info from anyone would Be greatly appreciated.
I did it with the ex missus for 5 yrs straight and 95 % of the time we were LIVING out of the truck whilst building a house in Spain.
We did LONG hours near every day and pushed the mileage too.
It worked for us back in the day and we saved money …However European work now is best part ■■■■■■ and there is no real profit in the job. And UK double manned work is very rare indeed by comparison so good luck.
I did find that you have to be really really tidy and be prepared to find it’s not always a bed of roses working with the missus !
And over here, some companies allow Husband/Wife to run, what is called Super Single Team, and that is, instead of having a 2 driver team running continually, covering 1000+ miles a day, you would have the main driver doing a full stint and the less experienced driver doing half a stint, 800 ish miles a day, so you stop to rest everyday.

My partner has also suggested a very similar thing but a totally different type of forum.
Anyway without resorting to a predictable smutty post I did get chatting to a couple who where working on boxes out of Felixstowe and they seemed quite happy. Always a case of enquiring to see if double manned (or double personed for the PC brigade) runs are available but sure they where on for Wincanton.
As far as living with your partner in a confined space, well thats more down to the relationship dynamic so perhaps ■■■■ it and see is the best way to find out. But if your in love it shouldnt be an issue as long as you can get some ‘me’ time now and again.
I am a tramper in the UK by choice to get away from her It’s bad enough spending the weekend with stroppy knickers
Meant in the nicest possible way of course (hope she’s not on here ).
Regarding original post, I would think it would be hard to spend work/relaxation 24/7 in any relationship - that is ANY relationship. Couple or even just trucker double crew…not for me!!! I do like my own space most of the time.

Um… I am on here! I’m the so called stroppy knickers, who posted the original questions. Don’t paint us all with the same paintbrush…
We have spent a fair bit of time together on the truck while I learn the ropes and we love it together. Hence why we are adventuring down this road. Put biggest concern is actually finding the work that will allow it…

georgi transport out of burbach near Frankfurt airport is where you want to be, although they converse in English the woman in charge likes it if you kann sprechen Deutsch when you converse with her. Sie heisst Barbara
Me and my lovely wife did it, 13 countries, She’s sadly gone now,and I’ve just about retired. Given our time again we wouldn’t hesitate, t’was a fantastic life for us, treated well wherever we went, and often recognised at various watering holes, I guess because not so many married couples out there trucking.
