Double manning query

I was speaking to another driver this morning, he told me he was on his way back to the yard and was then going out with another driver. It was a three hour drive back to the yard. He wasn’t doing any driving when he was going out with driver 2, just helping him unload at their drops. What should he have done regarding his card? They weren’t double manned as it was past an hour that they met up (if my understanding is correct) he wasn’t doing any driving so would it have been card in slot 2 or simply not bother ?

As long as he doesn’t go over his 15hr duty time it’s fine.

Use number 2 slot because he is on an EU regs shift with recording equipment available

I would put card in, purely for the fact that should my card be checked for what ever reason,I could explain to the authorities what I was doing. As the law states " you must give a full and accurate account of your working day ".

If there are 2 drivers available to do the driving it’s multi-manning regardless of when the second driver joined the first, he cannot take advantage of the concession of daily rest periods but it can still be regarded as multi-manning.
Unless he’s used up all his driving time, in which case it’s not multi-manning but slot 2 can still be used to record his activities.

In the circumstances you’ve described I would have put the card in slot 2.

Thanks for the replies

So as long as they adhered to breaks and available driving time they could have changed drivers as often as they liked too ■■

Yes, as long as the person driving has his card in slot 1 and the co-driver has his card in slot 2 there’s no problem with them sharing the driving, like I said the second driver couldn’t take advantage of the daily rest concession for multi-manning, whether or not the first driver could would depend on what he’d been doing from the start of the shift.

Legally as above, realistically leave the card in your wallet, let the other boy do all the driving and just help to unload and enjoy the extra pennies at the end of the week but don’t blab about it all over a truckers forum ! :unamused:

Put your card in so you get paid.

There wasn’t any extra pennies for him as he’s salaried, he was running in and was due back at the same time his son (who drives for the same company) was due out on a day run, he simply wanted to go out with him, have some time together and help him unload so he could get home sooner. Oh and probably spend most of the time telling him how things were different in his day :grimacing:

Next time I have a query I’ll not to blab about it all over the forum tho :unamused:
