Double manning on digi card

Quiet on the bulk feeds at the moment so I was given the luxury of a “mate” today. Done double-manning before but never with digi-card.

We both put our digi-cards in the tacho, mine (1) as normal, his (2) kept defaulting to POA after a couple of minutes of driving. This happened every time we tried to set his card to “rest” when at a drop, so that he could record his break.

Printout showed only 2 minutes of break recorded when used in this fashion; we took a 15 minute break during the morning when vehicle was stationary and that showed up on both printouts.

As I understand it, it’s legal to take a break whilst a passenger in the vehicle, when the vehicle is moving , in fact that’s surely the whole point of double-manning, to maximise travelling time?
Question; were we doing anything wrong or is the tacho head at fault here?

Vehicle is Volvo FM9 on a 56 plate.

Thanks.

You are not doing anything wrong. The second slot defaults to POA when the vehicle moves and in multi-manned operations VOSA will assume the first 45 minutes of POA to be break for the card in the second slot.

Cheers Coffee. That’ll do for me.
