I know it’s a 15’3" bridge and its marked up as that on the bridge sign but that is at it’s highest point
I doubt very much that the bridge could be 16’ with a 15’3" marker sign up thats a 9’ difference
As it’s an arched bridge, the highest point is the top middle of the arch. However, because you have to take the width of the vehicle into account, they paint on the goal posts. The corners of the trailer will pass with a few inches to spare while the middle will probably have about 6"-2 feet spare depending on the curve of the arch. Oh and it’s a 9" difference, not 9’.
Back to the main point though, we all make mistakes and to have one driver laugh at another for making a mistake and hitting the bridge ■■■■■■ me off.
I ain’t laughed at him. Just said anyone who hits a bridge is a bit stupid really that’s just my view and a view of others on here. We all have different views and opinions that’s what makes these sort of forums interesting and lively places yes we all make mistakes but I feel that a bridge strike is totally avoidable these days with Truckers atlas and trucker Sat Navs. Like I’ve said previously look at the height of the trailer you are pulling, check a truckers atlas and plan you’re route accordingly.
No, that wasn’t directed at you sorry. I said it in an earlier post that it ■■■■■■ me off. It’s even got ‘lol’ in the ■■■■■■■ title!

I disagree that it’s totally avoidable. I’m ■■■■ scared of hitting one so when I’m on a route that I’m unfamiliar with, I’m on hyper alert! Thing is, if I’m on a familiar route with say, a 15’ 3" bridge on that I go under every day, it’s easy to see that I could forget and do the same route with a 16’ 2" Decker on.
I’m not the type of person to do that and forget I’m too tall for a bridge and I believe in the seven P’s. Doesn’t mean it’ll never happen to me if I’m under pressure or not thinking that morning.
It’s not so much about defending the driver, but as fellow professional’s I think we should show a bit of solidarity and empathy without assuming he/she is a ■■■■ driver and we’re better.

No, that is what height of vehicle can pass under safely if you stick under the white markings. At its highest point, the tip of the arch, it’s probably 16’. I’d still do it.
I’ve been through it once with one of our 14’11" trailers the first time i was up that way and got through but my arse was clenching up a bit! i get up that way regular i’d rather use the diversion route now because one slight and i mean slight mistake going under that bridge and you are [zb]! plus with it being on an s bend makes it a lot worse. They only put them signs up maybe 2-3 year ago(there’s also one coming from Aberdeen towards Inverness,it’s on the roundabout near to the Morrisons supermarket where it tells trucks over either 14’3" or 14’6" i’ve forgot which to turn right and follow the truck signs. I doubt very much that the bridge could be 16’ with a 15’3" marker sign up thats a 9’ difference

You’d crap yourself round here then, 15’ ers go under that regular.
Why would you [zb] it up? It’s easy, you’re a professional aren’t you?
so if you’ve not been up that way before and you get to that bridge you’re saying you couldn’t ■■■■ the positioning up to go under the bridge then■■? it’s obvious trucks have hit that bridge before or else they wouldn’t decide to put signs up making out the bridge is only 14"3’ or 14"6’ would they if you read my threads you would see that i’ve put that i’ve been through it before.Errrr yes i am a professsional as you put it,have been for the last 10 years.

The bridge that you show Wayne, I know it well and in a lot of ways it is similar to the Inverurie bridge…s bend and lights.
I used to regularly go under the bridge at Inverurie but after a friendly word with Hamish Macbeth, I now follow the diversion (which actually isn’t much longer).

well he says that 15" trailers go through that one he has put up regular. I wouldn’t attempt going through there with a trailer at 15" seen as though the sign has the bridge marked up at 14"9’ only untill i have seen it with my own eye’s. I dont know the the bridge and it’d be marked up in my tuckers atlas as 14"9’ so i wouldn’t even trust a local telling me it’s ok to go through.

It is marked at 14’9 with a triangle, this was something to do with residents trying to stop the trucks going past their houses. It didn’t work. The company which is local to that bridge, some on here may know (I’ll not name them) run mostly 15’3 trailers that go under that bridge fine.
I think they have 1 trailer that won’t fit, and also they go around the long way if they’re moving the large ‘bins’ (another clue to the company).
The reason it’s marked 14’9 and not lower, is because the busses we used to run down there were marked at 14’9 (even though they fit under the 14’6 bridges near asda and BT roundabouts.
for instance the 13ft3 bridge in penistone i 13ft6 goues under with air dumped and you go through in middle roads at a camber hazzerds on and nice and steady through
