Do you still need someone to hold your hand when you go for a ■■■■?
Makes a good noise when you take out the branches going down the back roads lol
As as a salaried worker once, I side-stepped ever having to drive them. I was always on leave when the training weeks used to come up (there were lifts to operate, etc.)
As a hourly paid agency worker, I now drive them. I’m quite happy to sit on the motorway that is closed, as I’m not going to attempt going down an “all eggs in one basket” A-road (let alone a B road!) in case that is shut for some reason as well, and I might end up trapped in some town or other. If the client takes exception to this “play it safe” approach, then sure, I won’t be working there again but I won’t be paying any fines/getting endosements either. I will be getting paid for all the hours I was out however!

You got a link to the double deckers with super singles?
We have about 10 Deckers, every one of them is on super singles.

If they shut the motorway,do you have to sit there,if you deviate off course, with the height of these trailers, there is a chance of hitting something. If i put the height in my Snooper,i could not rely on it 100%.
got sent off m1 once due to it being closed, didnt know area [or not in a d/d] so pulled over to side, had a look at map[bridges in area],followed route, nice and steady.main thing is to not panic, pull over and check your map,to see if there are any bridges, and what height, then plan a route,
id guess on a night could be a pain as thats when most roads are shut for roadworks.

Has anyone tipped them over on a roundabout, are they top heavy,a light load on the low deck and heavy stuff on top, like pet food and so on.?
Everywhere I’ve seen that runs them loads them any old how. It is the size of the pallet that seems to influence where its loaded. Only the liquid containers seem to consistently get put on the ground floor…
At least we get to close our own curtains, thus knowing at least where the instabilities might be before setting off…

Was refering to hydraulic floor deckers…
I did some agency work for a bread maker near Bellshill who use DD’s.First time i took one on a trunk to manchester i was told by the office bod “Bit windy today, watch out at shap–HA HA”.Now this disturbed me slightly but didn’t dwell on it.
Got to where you can see the shap summit sign, and got a gust from the side-my arse near collapsed, grabbed the steering wheel so hard my forearm muscles ached for days and crawled down to tebay at 35…Kept on going to tip and brought a single decker back(not my choice-that was what was going)learned a new perspective that day.
The height of the trailer doesn’t matter, if you are diverted off the motorway, get your truckers atlas out and re plan your route taking bridge heights in to consideration.
Deckers are a drivers best friend, they’re only used on easy trunking work 99% of the time, give me that any day over multi drop in a normal height trailer.
Just don’t curb the little wheels as they’re fragile & collapse easy enough. Had this happen to one of my drivers once, took ages for ATS to source a rim.

Don’t screw them round either - when they are loaded it can rip the tyes off the rims. It happened to me at Halfords.

At least you could buy a jack, wheel brace, tyre lever and foot-pump

Sod that. Surely Halfords would fit it for you for a rip-off sort of fee!!!
