Aah, but the so-called donkeys of yesteryear were;
a. Unaccustomed to warfare advances - but along with the slaughtered they tried their clueless best for the ‘right reasons’
b. Unelected - unlike the prawns that UK tribes endorse (choosing to be sheep? Aaargh) every election time 
Any superficial similarity between the century-apart analogy deserves exposure of its truthful guts, cos my preferred cliche is Michel Foucault’s “Knowledge is Power” - although the EU is knowledgeably reliant upon our diluted thirst for balanced knowledge to expose their cowardly, chinless & grey shenanigans too
