Don't think you should have done that Drive!

2 x Cranes in Netherlands sat on a barge with a heavy lift… I’m no expert but I could see that coming. Their positioning alone doesn’t look too good.

Agency…just gettin that out the way early.
Anyway im no expert (well I am) but even to the novice crane operator performing a tandem lift one would anticipate correct stabilasation or counter balance is essential. Now using my expertise I can envisage that the whole risk assesment didnt take into account they where both on chuffin water.

Not a hi viz in sight which is the obvious cause of this debacle… Funny though.
Correction: Later in the clip a press photographer can be seen looking resplendant in his hi viz vest, what a prize plum.

I’m no expert in lifting bridge sections but something as heavy as that on what is basically a glorified raft?

It’s not rocket science - or am I missing something here.

Anyway, looks like the bridge sections OK, so that’s something.

There’s gonna be a fantastic selection of awkward questions flying about.

And a shed load of arse covering.

It’s possible the barge controller should have some liability. It looks like the ballast on the barge was wrong allowing it to dip down as the weight shifted over the edge.
A lift like that should be done slowly filling the ballast tanks to counterbalance the weight going over the edge.
Once it starts going wrong there’s little can be done to stop it.

Now I know Im only a old dippy lorry driver but how would the HI Viz have helped does it have magic properties that would have stopped this from happening I mean people still get run over wearing them !!!mmmmmm

Yes but if you get run over wearing a hi viz you’re not quite as dead as you would be without one. Everybody knows that!

My First thought is… as a driver… what do you do.

Try to jump out at the risk of getting smacked by a giant metal rod / cable… stay in the cab and try and get out abit later on.

catch 22!!

I would have ■■■■ myself!

I would have assumed they would have used legs or piling from the barge to the canal floor, or am I just a driver thinking again
