Don't look down! Millau Viaduct

Came back up from Beziers this week and came over the new Millau Viaduct.
It really is a beautiful piece of engineering and although it was very windy I had no problems, they reckon to keep it open 365 day’s a year no matter what the weather.

This is the first view you have of it going north

The view as you come onto it

Looking over the edge is not for the faint hearted!

This is the view looking south, very impressive.

I did almost the same run the week before and went via Valence,Lyon,Beaune and Auxerre to Sens from Beziers, but going via the A75 over the Millau Viaduct is only 30km shorter.
However, there is a considerable saving in motorway tolls going via the A75 but it is a very hilly route with some long steep hills that rise to over 1000m above sea level so if you were running at full weight it would cost you more fuel.

Nice pic’s KW

NICE Pictures, but I am willing to place a bet that when the winter

weather comes to the area of the bridge in full voice that we all

decide to take the old road instead.

Beatiful Pictures!!! Nice bridge!!!
I notice no lorries around on the new bridge in ur picture ? :unamused:

Ben,

I was too quick for them Ben

Have they posted a weight limit through Millau yet KW?

Do you know if they intend to? I’ve only been that way once, through Millau, on a Saturday evening just before the ban came in. It was a fantastic sight with spot-lights illuminating the cliffs opposite. I nearly fell off the road, too busy looking at the view :unamused: , giving it “WOW, look at that”.

I hope they don’t put a weight limit on, cos there’s a good supermarket that you can park opposite in Millau.

Have not been over the viaduct yet, but watched it being built, hope to cross it sometime soon.
