I passed class 2 sept 2013, started work 2 days later with agency.
first full time job within 2 weeks doing multi drop,
and now I start my second full time job on Monday 10th with bidvest paying just shy £30k pa for class 2 work
so DONT listen to the usual merchants of doom. no experience you wont get a job your useless, its ■■■■ pay blah blah
just make your self available phone companies direct, and knock on doors
the clincher for me getting this new job even though I had only a few months experience was the dcpc, as they have a policy of only taking on drivers with full cpc
Very well done, firstly for getting the job and then for letting us know.
It is far easier now for newbies to get work than it has been for years. Certainly I’m sure there will be “dead spots” but generally things are certainly on the up.
Firstly well done on making the most of your opportunity smiggs - as you quite rightly say the work is out there for new drivers.
We had a class 1 pass this week who had the choice of 2 jobs once he passed - not bad at the age of 21
Good luck to all you newbies and I hope you get what you deserve
For £30kpa on LGV C it will involve at least 5x 10hr shifts with start times varying from 3-4am & finishes up till 8-10pm. 7 days a week.
It’s hard work, don’t let anyone tell you that it isn’t. The average ‘C’ used for this type of work will carry 10-12 tons, that’s 10-12 tons of 25kg boxes & sacks that have to be handballed into the pantry . . . every day . . . regardless of your hangover or slightly dodgy muscle strain from yesterday.
That’s after you’ve found a place to park, reversed in off the main drag, or waited 'till all those cars/bins have been moved.
Don’t expect any help lugging those 25kg boxes either, the drops are mostly staffed by min’ wage oxygen thieves or bright & bubbly giggling likkle girlyz. Not that you’ll be wanting to chat with 'em, the route planners will soon work out how hard you are prepared to work for your early finish & plan your routes accordingly.
I’m told it can take the average knuckle dragger as long as 8yrs to work that one out, the harder you work, the harder they’ll work you.
You certainly work for your £30k. Which is why most of 'em got the job, the rest of us simply wouldn’t do it, either from experience, or some kind of in-built commonsense !
Well done lad, ignore the naysayers, you have to get your own career going. You will find lots of people trying to get you down. 30k as within 6 months of qualifying, well done.
current job is multi drop, all handball, 4am starts with 5x10hr shifts!
so no change except its a 4 day week with the new mob and will be 12 hr shifts, with £10k more a year.
no contest really hard work is not an issue as I expect to work for a wage.
op was aimed at new drivers who are maybe just a bit sick of hearing all the doom and gloom, not for the t!ts who think its a god given right to put everyone else down. Go back to your frilly curtains were sick of hearing it
smiggs:

Could you post links to some of these doom and gloom posts because I don’t seem to see them
What I generally see is people saying it’s not always easy for new drivers to get a start, and it’s usually new drivers trying to find a job who make those posts.
On the whole I would say that the majority of people, not all but the vast majority of people, tell it as it is.
