Hopefully this link will work for those that care to take a look.
Single lane dual carriage way, mid-afternoon, damp road, trundling along around 50mph, approaching a turn from the left, nothing in front for several hundred yard, 2 cars waiting for me (and anything behind me) to pass before joining the road, van approaching on the opposite carriage way to turn right. Another car comes (no indicators) positioned to turn right across the carriage way, going very slow, but doesn’t stop, just drives straight across in front of me. Carrying around 12t, so around 34t @ 50mph, my stopping distance is way beyond the junction. Nothing gained in going full anchors, I’d never stop in time and would probably lose control. Split second to decide to hard right into the gap and then hard left before hitting the sign, just waiting for the impact, there wasn’t one, the car had obviously stopped and we’d missed by inches. It then continued with it’s turn and drove on.
I’ve had close calls before, but never this close. If there were something in the gap then I’d have had no choice but to keep as straight as possible and in all likelihood go straight over the top of the car. If it hadn’t stopped, there would have been contact, if had moved even a little way forward then impact would have been the driver.
Very little bothers me, but this does, I need to get my head together and be able to move on, just been dwelling on it for the past few hours, not healthy.
Sit back in yer…
Armchair and realise it’s over, gone, finished and the outcome was good.
No point at all in thinking about the bad thing that didn’t happen.
A prime example of a lot of drivers now. No attention, no indication, no brain, and no bloody self preservation!! I really don’t understand why or how you would miss a F-ing great big lorry bearing down on you.
I ride a motorbike, and this sort of junction always has me looking for an exit. I’ve had similar happen to me on the bike. It’s a case of when it’s going to happen not if it seems.
If I were you I’d pat myself on the back for pulling off one hell of a save, then, change my underpants and have a stiff drink. Such a shame it’s you doing the worrying and not the brainless dimwit in the car!
I hope you don’t dwell on this. It’s something that could have been bad but your skill and split second decision prevented it. That’s gotta be worth a wry smile and chuckle to yourself.
Never fear there’ll be another half wit along tomorrow desperate to save 1 second even if it costs them and/or someone else their legs or life, there are thousands of the sods at large.
The junction design is a joke.I’m guessing you mean someone tried to turn right from the road on the left ?.It’s obvious that should be a no right turn if not close the gap completely bearing in mind the roundabouts just along the road each way.Combine that with your 50 mph approach speed and traffic potentially turning right from both directions what could possibly go wrong.
As for your gut feeling.Maybe it’s your sub concious trying to tell you that you’re under too much pressure if you think that it was ok to be running at 50 mph there in that situation.

The problem is the half wit’s outnumber the decent driver’s
