Don't fast and drive

for a fresh story, but here are some other such “incidents” where the driver was more likely fatigued from low blood sugar (lack of eating) rather than “had been up all night” like we truckers might be more familiar with “Nodding Dog”…

Note that the driver of the tram - isn’t all over the Press like say Dave Wagstaff was with the M1 Minibus Crash…

Should someone of Chander’s age or “faith” - be driving a public service vehicle at all?

Isn’t it daft that PSV holders can be run ragged with hours even more than Truckers?

Your agency needs to work you more so you can stop spouting crap on here daily.

So essentially you’re saying nobody of any faith who fasts as such should be allowed to drive professionally? Because that is how it’s coming across to me…

Now… knowing Mr Chander personally… what faith do you think he practices? And I’m sorry if this appears impolite I just fail to see the relevance of faith while you pick out sone stories and ignore the vast majority of other incidents which involve mainly white and possibly Christian persons.

First one - no details what-so-ever of the driver so no relevance to the story. More likely had a medical episode if he / she crashed into a house rather than anything to do with fasting or religion.

Tram crash - suggestion is the driver fell asleep likely due to daft shift patterns as many other drivers have done the same thing, including 3 others at the same location. They were just very lucky to have woken before getting to the critical point. No mention of driver identify so can’t even infur a connection to religion or fasting.

Sainsbury’s crash - I don’t know the guy, but I strongly suspect if he practices any religion it would be Hindi and I can’t find any mention of fasting around the time of the crash in that case. That one seems to have been caused by medical issues potentially not being followed up by upper management but again nothing to do with religion. From what I remember, the 70 hours driving claim was disproven.

Yes we probably should tighten up on the regulation hours but that’s got nothing to do with fasting, religion or similar.

If you want to be worried, panic about the millions of car drivers out there who are driving tired especially this time of the year. Or the ones in “the city” who work stupid hours to get the bonuses but then drive home in their flashy Merc’s probably absolutely exhausted in the middle of London.

The ones that worry me the most are taxi drivers. Christmas Eve I caught one home, and swmbo mentioned I was a lorry driver. The taxi man proudly proclaimed that he couldn’t do what I did, as he didn’t want his earning power tied down by law. He went on to say he was into 20 hours already that shift, and was still fine. But he drank 2 cans of red bull just on our journey! I couldn’t get out of there quick enough!

Only same as white van man. He can start at 4 am drive say the Midlands to Aberdeen and back legally . Then go home few hours kip back in at 4 am . And he doesn’t need to stop for 45 mins.for a break to recharge himself and have a coffee etc

Let me re-phrase it then: Fasting is as dangerous to those that drive, and those around those that drive as Drink Driving and “lack of sleep” - BOTH things which we truckers and bus drivers alike - would quickly be deprived of our licences over, if found doing…

So why not for “Fasting” as well?

The government would appear to be covering it up, by avoiding the use of a driver’s faith in all court stories written of those now in the dock for their “crimes”…

It is about time that FASTING got looked upon as dimly as DD, DR, and “insufficient daily rest”, including when a driver HAS had 11 hours off, but chose to burn the candle at both ends by partying it up over Christmas, for example…

The Croydon Tram Driver seems to freely admit in the “news” articles that “He fell asleep”.

So what do we know from this?

(1) He’s prepared to admit that.
(2) He’s a “He”.

What do we get kept from us, as the concerned public?

Was he Fasting?
Is he of a faith that regularily fasts?
Why was his ethnic/faith/lifestyle/name apprently supressed, when he’s clearly responsible for the deaths of multiple people?

Everyone got named from the M1 minibus crash, and the passengers there were ethnics of a different faith, including the driver of the minibus unfortunately.

As always, coronors tend not to level any criticism of those who have died in the accident that they may well have contributed to. :frowning:

This issue needs to be addressed, if nothing else.

Our authorities need to stop hiding behind political correct edicts, and stop worrying about “whom the truth would upset”. - Or the “Truth” becomes yet another victim in further epsisodes like the ones we have already seen.

I wonder just how many “taxi driver class” drivers out there - that are exactly the same as this one you have encounterered… It ain’t safe - is it?

Why can’t we ask the obvious questions, if it is anything other than PC to avoid doing so?

Who’s to say the driver hasn’t been named because of the inference that it would make, possibly prejudicing the course of any trial - which isn’t even a foregone conclusion to take place, as it stands… Where’s the justice for the victims in THAT?

Here’s a report from the horse’s mouth…

I am trying to increase awareness of the issue here, whilst our authorities choose to hide the facts behind the deliberate hiding of those facts, no doubt due to politically-correct hidden agenda-driven reasons.

I would also point out that Khaan’s roll-out of under-qualified (and rather unprofessional!) TfL drivers - also has this dark side to it…

Would you want to get into a taxi being driven by someone with Red Bull rather than Blood in their veins, as pointed out by WhiteTruckMan’s post above?

It’s easy to get into a health problem when too busy to look after yourself .
I used to end up with a banging headache every friday when driving for a fabrication company . Almost like a migraine , due to lowered blood sugar and dehydration. I was too busy to eat or drink properly .
I didn’t realise at the time how much it affected me until others commented about how rough I looked and how easy it was for me to get drunk after work ( 3 pints ) and the awful hangover the following day .
Luckily I was only on very local work the consequences of the headaches and distance driving could have been rather unpleasant.

I daresay there’s more than a few HGV drivers who partake excessively of that product too, specially on nights.

In answer to your question, probably no more dangerous than some of the “heart attack waiting to happen” types you regularly see behind the wheel of a lorry.

You sure about that ■■, a responsible ‘white van driver’ will adhere to the the domestic hours regs, not all are cowboys !!
