Oh and to think i was intrested, but that clean licence thing as stumped me :unamused: your havin a laugh, surely there isnt anybody going to take that even here Daxi, or like me do you just know that there will be some muppett that will :unamused:

Let the Muppet take it

Just down the road from here in Saratoga Springs (50 miles to be exact) there is a septic tank and portable toilet company that advertises
‘Portable toilet rounds drivers needed, must have clean driving record. $7,00 per hour, no benefits.’

HEY :exclamation: People actually apply :exclamation: I know the bosses, they come from Grimsby (which probably explains it)

Anglian windows pay similar money & despite always needing drivers, they never seem to run out of willing victims.
Having done some agency work for them, what surprised me was the quality of many of their drivers, OK some are total morons but most are decent guy’s who are more than happy to live on peanuts & get treated like dirt.

the problem is, if you havent got a job, you are going to take it. Its ok being picky and living on benefits until a job with the right make of truck comes along.

If you have 7 kids and a limp you can pretend you need disabiliity allowance and get all sorts of benefits.

Some people cant get anything, and they need to take a job, even if its lowly paid.

Well yes the money is low :exclamation: but it could be a foot in the door for some young driver before moving on after gaining some expeirence on class 1 or it could be just enough for some bloke with a family to keep the wolf from the door till something better comes along.
Me I have never been out of work but if push comes to shove and I was out off work and needed to put food on the kids plates I would swallow my pride and take it , and anyway thanks to the wonderful RHA and FTA we are now allowed to continue to work stupid king hours so I doubt that only 48 hours is available in this case.
I reckon that the job will go sooner rather then later , it may reappear again and again but it will go.

The thing is this is low pay even by Norwich standards. I was on this money for bus driving 6 years ago & I was on £7 per hour for HGV work & not via an agency, 3 - 4 years ago.
Looking at the Job Centre Plus site this is the worst paid HGV job in Norwich. Others are paying.
£500 - 550 per week, Class 2, for 66 hours, thats at least £220 more for 8 hours extra work & on a Class 2 job not a Class 1.
£6 - 7.50 per hour, Class 1.
£7.00 per hour Class 1.
2 at £7.50 per hour.
& one paying £350 + bonuses per week for approx 40 hours, thats £70 per week + bonuses for fewer hours.
So on average it’s at the very least £1 per hour below the other work.
Also it’s an insult to pay this kind of money knowing that most drivers taking it will then need to be subsidised for doing so via tax credits etc.
Why should we work to subsidise these greedy, thieving companies who pay such appalling money, whilst getting rich at tax payers expense ?.

I agree with what you are saying but that job will go and as I say will probley reappear again and again, but there are companies around our neck of the woods which are paying less then that hourly rate with bonuses etc making up the money, a certain company in Yarmouth run by the chuckle brothers is paying less then that for staying out all week , which is why they cant get drivers and have resorted to cheap eastern bloc labour and now their already scabby fleet is now looking even scabbier
There will always be a diffrence in pay between class 2 and 1 and not always will class 1 be more, I have never driven class 2 and would never entertain doing so , well maybe if that was all that was available I would drop to that level  but if a class 2 can earn more then me on class1 good luck to them as I think class 2 can be a harder job at he end of the day with hand ball multidrop etc, as some class 1 will pay more then other class 1 , if I was offered a job paying £1.00 per hour more for tilt work I would decline it because I hate the things with a passion :imp:

Driving will always be overtime /bonus related pay while we have the WONDERFUL RHA and FTA fighting the bosses corner in letting us have the privalige of working for 65-70 hours aweek for a low wage :imp:

And after all driving a truck isnt brain surgery, alright some is very specialised , abnormal loads etc which not everyone could turn their hand to but the adverage fridge/curtain sider etc doesnt really put a strain on the old grey matter does it
Jammymutt once said something somewhere on here that a driver is just a labourer with a extra couple of letters on their licence which is after all very true

Totally agree Wheel Nut. If it was between this job and getting handouts to put food on my table and pay the rent I know what I would choose…and I wouldn’t be joining any quees put it that way. I know the money is ■■■ but its a job and to someone that could mean quite a lot…

Well thats a revelation to me, that allways used to be a job to have round the city, but like so many others its gone down the pan from what your sayi

I might be wrong, but there aint many left in GY now is there, and the chuckle bros’, just a bit of 2+2= , insert anwser as apropriate
May be Reefer Boy will have to be a little less criptic, he ought to know that us Norfolk boys are very quick

Well I can think of one Yarmouth firm with a fairly tatty fleet, Spandlers. They laid off half their drivers and wound down everything apart from their core operation (working for their parent company) cos they couldn’t afford to update the fleet.

But with those drivers laid off and Frans Maas drivers laid off just before, I should think class one drivers are pretty easy to come by locally.

This working for the parent company, i know what your saying, but it didnt do us any good at Yare, i let my feet do the the talking 6 mths earlier  , when Frans Maas, i mean Yare offered only 1.5 percent :unamused: on an already derisery wage. Then they wound them up anyway :open_mouth: . Note to all Spandler drivers, watch your backs, although they probably already are.

 Well BULLY just got himself a new job…WOO HOO!!! 2 runs a week delivering coal to Michigan, only away from home 2 nights a week $950 after tax plus benifets and weekends off OMG I’m so happy…nearly double what I was earning working 6 days a week doing local. No lumpers to deal with…no waiting at RDC’s…no booking in times etc. I think I’ve died and gone to heaven. I’ll actually see more of my wife and family than running local ■■?
