Dolav boxes.

I’m curious to know why dolavs are called dolavs.

A quick Google shows that they are made by the Dolav company, but presumably this in itself is a contraction of two words? Or is it just the founder’s surname? Or something else entirely?

They are Israeli so could just be someone’s name

Id guess its the same reason why most people call a truck mounted crane a hiab.

Just the company that makes a “version” of the product.

Maybe. I wondered on here before why “Mavis rails” are called Mavis rails and it turned out to be an acronym for “Montracon Articulated Vehicle Interconnection System” so I wondered if it might be something like that.

Just like “Hoover” Harry, and as they are the best and made in Watton Norfolk the name just stuck here in the UK.

Wot, 'oover? Used to be made in Merthyr. Or did you mean them dooverlacky things that I’ve never heard of?

They call them gaylords at a place we collect from.

I call them heaven as I only ever transport empties so it’s a positive fit in an XL trailer, couple of cross straps along the load and at the back and away we go. Even loading is easy, forkie sticks them on three high and I push the stack where I want it.

Well what are they then?

If they are Israeli, “dolav” means “plane” in Hebrew so maybe they originated as airfreight cases?

those collapsable plastic pallet boxes peterm.

These or something similar with perhaps more strength could well be the answer to the load restraint problem for bottles, cans and many other goods which are difficult to secure without damage.

Cue howls of protest from manufacturers about being unable to get sufficient payload of product on the vehicle becasue of weight and bulk.

There is an answer to that:
