Dog clips

On a few occasions I’ve forgotten to put the dog clip on. Never lost a trailer so they’re pretty pointless if you ask me. I know I would get nicked by vosa if it’s just hanging, but what if I took it off? Surely the can’t do you if it’s not there

For christ sake just clip it in it takes about 3 seconds if that. :unamused: :unamused:

Well write DOG CLIP on a post it and stick onto your dash where you can easily see it.

Dog clips are important, and lives have been lost because of it being missed,in a incident about 20 years ago a truck lost a trailer 5 miles out of British Gypsum Kirby thore, with a sad loss of life in a car going the other way leaving a widow and kids. THE DOG CLIP WAS NOT FASTENED.
Need i say any more.

Carry a spare clip in your bag of bits.

I’ll try the post its, cheers bald bloke. Never heard of that black. Interesting read, cheers rog

Before anyone says ,the jost 5th wheel has not got a dog clip but it has spring loaded l shaped piece to stop the lever coming out past the notch.
Also if the dog clip will not go in, the the wedge is not in fully in which needs investigating ,can happen in snowy conditions.

Can’t get the bloody post it to stick on the dash

I cant believe that someone with a username of ‘Troll’ puts up a post about ‘whats the point of dog clips’ and people are giving a serious reply! lol

I’m pretty sure no one thinks the little clip takes any load, and everyone understands its a safety device in case the main spring fails… Top bit of ‘poking’! lol

Repeated post

  :sunglasses:

One serious point about dog clips, if i owned my own lorry i would use a padlock in place of the usual dog clip, just in case of idiots/vandalism though i usually check the clip and handle when i return to the vehicle anyway.

Would a padlock be legal?

Does anyone do this already?

I’m not sure if its illegal juddian but I have a small padlock on the sliding fifth wheel arm as there is absolutely no reason for it to be adjusted, obviously been for six weeklies and an m.o.t. since and it’s never being questioned.

Not so good if you had a trailer fire and you wanted to save YOUR UNIT, or vica versa.

Yea good point…

Troll,

You cant take the dog clip off else it’ll fail the MOT, and if I was doing the 6 weekly you’d be getting it back with one fitted.

Go about your business
