Was talking to a driver at an RDC a couple if weeks ago and they apparently have to open a second bank account into which the company pay a £500 float. This they can use for anything expenses wise I.e bulbs, parking , clamp removal (joke).
They also just take their night out money from this float and as long as the receipts tally it just gets levelled back upto £500 weekly.
Great idea I thought.
we have a similar idea running at our place £250 amonth paid in to your bank topped up as to what receipts you hand in . but this is just for parking only night .
Last 4 companies i’ve worked for have all paid for parking ! But even so, i only pay if you get a decent meal voucher. Refuse to pay on services, far too expensive and noisy !!
Only hassle I’ve ever had I.e diesel pinched, curtains slashed, just having trailer doors opened, or the “any spare diesel?” caravan dwelling brigade has always been on MSA’s so I sort of feel a bit ■■■■■■ off paying £20+ for the honour. So I tend to avoid these places like the plague.
Ind. est preferred with a shower prior to parking.
Euro work I don’t mind as much but still a bit picky.
Yep, tonight I’m parked in a quiet little corner outside a provincial branch of Jewson’s, nobody even knows I’m here. Nobody has driven past all evening.
Park in a lay-by and thousands of people will drive past before you get your head down. Chances are, at least one is a thief who suffers from insomnia
The times I use laybys always end up bloody paranoid. Every time a car/van pulls in I end up watching them in the wing mirrors from the bunk. And every noise makes me wonder wtf is going on yet on an estate no probs.
No quibble from my boss about parking fees, always paid back in full in cash the following week , if were a bit strapped for cash we can have an advance to cover any expenses. we get £22 per night out on top.
Having said all that i will personally only park on a MSA as a very last resort. I do a lot of farm work and can usually plan my day to end up close to time on a nice quiet farm in the middle of nowhere.
I dont have a problem with laybys ,(it would have to be a hell of a stanley knife to cut through the sides of a bulker ! ) but i will NOT park in a layby that is alongside the road without any dividing island. Unless as a very very last resort.

You see i feel most safe in laybys, ones that are closeish to the road ie no kerb seperating you from the traffic, they cant get long side that way. But no where is safe though really, we’ll be a target for as long as people carry on buying stolen goods.
