Does work slow down for class 2 during January?

Hi guys

Just needed some input from the experienced drivers haha

I’m still a new pass driver to the hgv world and I have only had 1 job since I passed September till December last year

I was laid off a week for Christmas and I have been looking for work since I had loads of calls of recruiters be fore Xmas but I think it was due to the Xmas shutdown that i haven’t heard anything since

I have 1 job interview this coming Friday for a bin lorry driving job that been rearranged It’s seems ok and although I ain’t to knock it it’s beat to have a job then nothing at all but the money seems poor £11.80 an hour working 35 hours a week.

I’m just a bit worried I’m not gonna find work cause of it being January I heard work slows down is this true

I think all work slows down in January

Unless it’s some kind of vital service like waste etc

Take the job on the bins. It will pay your bills. It will give you experience. You will be doing more than 35 hrs a week. If you do not like it, then ■■■■ it until times get better?.

Another vote for taking the bin job, seems you haven’t had that much variety of work experience and this is a fantastic learning opportunity for any newish driver (speaking from experience that I was pleased to get)

But…there’s a driver shortage nationwide and if something is not done about it NOW the consequences wil be catastrophic!!!11, haven’t you heard?

Answer to op yes. Try the bin wagons, you may like it

Yes, that’s why I’m sending this from the cab of my brand new Scania V8 which I use for my job hauling milk tankers, for which I’m paid £87,000 a year…

Notice how The Media never get publicly held to account for their BS stories? :unamused:

Well I’m getting £1500 this week pre tax :stuck_out_tongue: Which works out like 77k a year so they not far off :grimacing:
That’s not bonus money either all hourly rate.

FInd a job that involves C2 work delivering Food, such as Bidvest/Brakes/Supermarkets - and you’ll be turning down shifts, they’ll be so keen to get you to do them, especially on Saturdays…

THIS…if there is a company near you doing food or drink, you will find a job,and you will also become the fittest bloke in your street

Not everyones cup of tea. Try pallet companies to keep the cash rolling in. Its hard work but a job

Why is pallet work hard? Do you have to pick up the pallets?

Where are you based mate ? My firm looking for a 2 drivers .

I do class one and two pallet network and we’re busy as hell at the moment, I prefer driving class two as I find artic multidrop pretty stressful but there’s plenty of work around in the south west.

Turns out they were just a agency in house. 1st I’ve heard of it.

They asked me questions about my 5 years employment history and wanted to know how much my hourly rate was at every job I’ve had in the last 5 years just 3 jobs I asked them what’s that gotta do with the job I’ve applied for ?

He just went “it’s good to get a good round number to make sure your paid the right wage from an experience point of view”

EVEN THOW IT STATES £31k on the job ad

Then the real kicker was “when did you pass your test” told them it was 6 months as go and then he said “ohhhhh that is gonna cause problems you need at least 12 months experience”

I said “well if that’s the case why wasn’t it stated on the job ad and why give me a interview that as tuck me over an hour get here for” ?

He just went “well it’s just a bit of a miscommunication haha”

After that I got and left just saying thanks,

Man I give up it’s bad enough to get your hopes raised for nothing

Are you married , kids , then unless things have changed from years ago you will get benefits , in my day family allowance , and I think it was family credit , I know loads who stopped working o/ just before there family credit was due to be assessed, others who just did 30 hrs pw as it didn’t pay them to do more hours as they just lost out on there benefits
I’d not get hung up on hourly rate if you’re as I say , married , kids , maybe try to find out what benefits you would be due on that wage , you may be better off to n 35 hrs x £11.80 + benefits than £15 x£70 , and you’ve the benefit of more time with wife & little ones

It appears if you was a new pass last spring/summer jobs was a plenty.
Since adjusting rules slightly, jobs for new passers aren’t so common.

It doesn’t look like anybody knows how many hours the temp foreign drivers are doing or if they leave when they should. These drivers under this temp arrangement are keeping many new passes of the road IMO.
