Not that im telling you to apply, but DHL i know from Parcel,TK Maxx, ect, ect,…Is there a new Line? Musst be good, safe Job

my mate got offered that job about 18 months ago but turned it down but he said that they do deliver to a hell alot of prisons,i think he did about a week or 2 on agency first

Yes they supply stuff to the prisons and the inmates pick and pack it for delivery to other inmates. It’s basically running the prison shops.

i heard that bookers had won a prisons contract and i recall seeing rigids with dhl logos in hatfield not so long back

Ha,… :grimacing:
If you start to argue when delivering they may keep you for some Time

I had to deliver to Long Lartin prison and they told me all of the hoops I would have to jump through to get inside so I said “Er, I won’t be doing that, I’ll just take the stuff back” and so they sent two cons out with a screw to handball the stuff off. They seemed decent enough lads so when the screw wasn’t looking I gave them some baccy.

Be ringing you up saying can you bring some Bensons and a mobile and a george foreman grill  “if you watched itv Benidorm you know what i mean by the grill”

correct!

Not much cop running for the prison service.
Did it years ago running around in the marked up prison service wagons.
Gets tedious after a bit and some of the prison officers think they can treat you like an idiot and mess you about.
Had a few arguments with some of them when they were just being out and out ■■■■■■■■■■
Some of the prisons have very restricted access and tight as as hell.(victorian prisons designed for horse and cart)As in you drive in and have to reverse out as you won’t get turned around anywhere.

You’ll love it when the inmates kick off and the prison goes on lockdown with you in it.Restricted to cab and you ain’t going nowhere for a few hours.
Some of the staff that have outside delivery points are lazy as hell too.Rolled up to quite a few places at around 11.15am to 11.30 am to be told sorry mate we are going on dinner just after 12 and we are on tea break now !!!
I used to start hand balling it off on the floor for them, that got them off their backsides and complaining.I would just carry on chucking it off and then leave.
I wouldn’t do it again, not my cup of tea.

Its description is nearer to Tesco Home deliver service, where (providing the prisoner has sufficient funds to pay for it) they can order Food - ambient, fruit, veg, chilled & frozen, tobacco (cigarettes, cigars, hand rolling) & non-food items inc from stuff from the argos catalogue, + creatin, whey powder from a taylored list for each establishment depending on the Cat/security level of the prison. Agreed by the governor, and in a certain way a panel of prisoner reps. A you state the items are picked & packed (usually) by prisoners at DHL retail workshops within various prisons,
All stock is owned by the prison service and supplied by Bookers under the Happy shopper brand, and DHL only get paid for the picking/packing, transport and distribution to each “establishment” where DHL staff then take the stock and dish it out to the Cons. The “shopping” list a prisoner can pick from is extensive usually running onto 2 sides of A4. Certain prisons, will allow inmates to order frozen food inc 1 place where someone regularly orders 12 frozen chickens per week :open_mouth: and others ordering over £150s worth each week. Popular non food items include body building suppliments for the men, and health & beauty stuff for the ladies. Popular non food items include Duvets (in the winter) and desktop fans in the summer. Though PS3s, gameboys, videos and even electric guitars & practice amps can be ordered via the argos catalogue

Dont you just love it when youve spent a couple of hours getting to the front of the wagon queue, only for the paddy wagons to draw up in front of you and get let in before you. A 20 minute delivery can take 1-3hrs especially at YOIs when theyre kicking off every 10mins :unamused: Heaven forbid you try to deliver in the winter and ask “Have they cleared the roads, & will I be able to get round” only to find theyve cleared a 12" wide path, or worse, youve got 3 500m hills to drive up & theres 6" of snow on the ground, and you only option is to tell the ■■■■■■ “open the gate buddy, and get the hell out the way, Im gonna take a run at it and I aint stopping till I get to the top” (armley) or you get 1/2 way around only to find the the drop bolt for the gate is frozen solid into the ground and theres no way of reversing (risley).
Then as you state they won`t let you in until say 09:30 after the cons have been moved to work, and the cons getting released that day are out, then around 11:15 they shut shop while they move em back for their dinner. Then the escorts who are highly old school with the attitude “its not my job mate” are stood talking crap for hours before they knock off for dinner & go to the gym etc. So you end up sat outside for what was a 09:00 delivery, still sat there at 13:30 only for the van bringing the daily supply of prescription drugs & methadone (that costs around £20K - £30K per week for each nick) to jump the queue. Though its quite amusing watching the parcel delivery guys going nuts coz they only have around 4mins per drop and the prison makes em wait

honest guv, I deny all knowledge of what goes on with DHL & 136 prisons

Durham was the worst I ever went to - armed gaurds and eff-off dogs all over because they had to open both gates to let me in.

We deliver to Hewell pretty often and they don’t clear the ice/snow. On the whole they aren’t that bad though.

I’ve done a whole load of prisons, complete pain in the arse and that’s just the showers

Take a good book as there is plenty of waiting around, and as said above the access to some is poor. Maidstone has an arched entrance that our 18 tonners would just fit through once you’d got them lined up but it was an awkward as the road wasn’t mega wide.

I made the mistake of looking up some of the prisons and found out about the types of inmates they held. When you had inmates helping unload I found it better to not know what level of security that prison was. Finding that some of your drops were full of lifers is a bit unsettling.

Most of the drops I`ve done at Durham at usually at the RID/stores yard around the corner, the guys there are a friendly bunch and are always willing to help handball

They didnt apreciate me singing Peter gabriels song "sledgehammer" the other week when I was there. But again the stores guys are a good bunch. It alway gives me a laugh if I come off the M42 at J1 and head towards the prison via 11ft 9" bridge route, the faces of car drivers are a picture when they see me, especially as theyre usually going down the lane over the speed limit and panic

Tbh you have to leave your opinion and attitude at the door, and ignore the reasons theyre there & get on with it. You quite rightly point out that the best source of prison addresses is the HMPS "locate a prison" website, this website also give the details of the type of prisoners held there too. You may also be aware that there are several establishments that solely hold up to 1000 vunerable prisoners (VPs) and the majority of those are ■■■ offenders, which is why they are housed in seperate location rather than segrigated within a mainstream prison. But again when you drive through the gates of these places, as with any other establishment you have to leave your opinion and attitude at the door.

Also going to places like Gartree, its best to ignore the imates having a did at the officers when they point up at the sky and shout “look… Helicopter”

Yep agree with above. There is a few prisons that have the segregated areas for the ■■■ cases. There is a few places that are just the whole prison ■■■ cases.
Places like frankland and other cat A’s you won’t come across an inmate, you will be dealing with store personnel only.
The womans prisons can be entertaining if they are all taking the ■■■■,they never listen to the screws

One of the better ones we did was Wandsworth. If you could get in at around 7:30 the storemen would have you in and out before 8.30am.It would only be you and him doing it.Loved that one if you could get it in at that time, you would be back on the M25 sailing homeward bound with the rest of the day to get back.
Wandsworth was usually booked on it’s own as it could be a pig of a tip.

Brixton nightmare to get in there with the cars round the back.Exeter rigid only and a couple of shunts to get lined up for the gate.

Some eye openers in that job.

I find the womens prisons highly amusing, one place my drop was up the path in a space 20ft wide between 2 parallel wings, 9am in the morning the ladies are gossiping out of the windows across to the person in the wing opposite. When I backed the truck up, I blocked the line of sight and they got a little miffed. As I climbed out the cab and locked it, one of em shouted “Oi driver!” …“shift ya wagon” …as I spun around to see who shouted, shes stood in the window flashing her ■■■■ at me. It wouldnt have been so bad, except for the fact she resembled "olive" from the "on the buses" TV show & was a real minger. Another time at a womans open prison near York, Id roll up in the afternoon, but wouldnt be let onsite until theyd had their evening meal, then theyd clear the tables and disapear off to their rooms, allowing us to unload the stuff. They would then be a PA tannoy call summoning them back to the room to collect their orders. When they turned up it wasnt unusual for them to be dressed in the nightwear, (PJs nighties etc) with very little worn underneath, leaving very little to the imagination. Even then the screws would take the micky out of some of them when they called their name, including Mrs Canoe and her mate Ms Andrews. Theyd regularly sing "row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream to her
