The late 70’s I was on nights for Smith of Maddiston, used to see a few Wisharts on the old A74,although I cannot remember where their Scottish depot was situated!

They are still going I think David, their depot was/is in Kirkcaldy.
Andrew Wishart are still going, in fact they recently bought out a firm near to Dumfries, namely M.R Clark, Corra Garage, Kirgunzeon. They closed the garage and moved to the old Express Parcel depot at Ecclefechan near Lockerbie. Hortons are no longer going in Tipton, and following in Chris,s footsteps I also remember them from the 60,s but not the Leyland but Commer 2 strokes. They used to carry lots of linolium from Tayport, hope this is of some help to you. Bob.
Ecclefechan, thats another SoM changeover layby I used to use, changing with Maddiston drivers on nights, then took the rubber to Tern Hill cafe, changed for an empty trailer and back to Manchester,5 nights a week!!
Thanks for jogging my memory Bob!
Take care,
David
