Does anybody know why there is one “half height” lamppost in a line of full size ones on the M5 about 400mtrs south of J7?
Can’t see any reason for it, and it makes me think “why?” Every time I pass it.
The excitement of a night driver knows no bounds!!
There is one in the central reservation just as you join the m57 from the west bound m62.
One of our drivers tipped his trailer over it full of flt’s about 4 years ago
Having scouted the map for an airfield nearby, that is ruled out.
Could it be to stop light pollution, but why stop there?
Dunno really.
Usually as there are power lines above.
Its to stop it taking down the power lines next to it if it gets hit by something.

Can’t see the point of just one little lamppost if there was an airfield, or for light pollution reasons, I’ll stop and look for power lines next time I’m down that way. Don’t recall seeing any, but it’s usually dark…

Happens a lot at night
I know that there is low level lamp-posts on the A40 just next to RAF Northolt. Baffled me at first until I switched the brain box on
Perhaps it’s a normal size lamppost just in a deaper hole, bulbs deep so to speak.
An Englishman, Irishman and a Scotsman all apply for a job with BT, putting up telegraph poles.
‘Whoever puts up the most poles in a day gets the job’ says the foreman.
At the end of the day, the Englishman and the Scot have both put up ten poles each. The Irishman has managed one.
‘What have you been doing all day?’ asks the foreman.
‘Well the ting is, those guys have left most of theirs still poking out of the ground’.
I’ll get me coat…

Still doesn’t stop the planes from hitting the cars on the road thought, they need to be lower.
I thought to reduce overheads …
