Does age count for anything

Wannabe here and was wondering if age counted for anything ?
I know that everyone talks about the 2 year thing , but would I stand a better chance as not in my twenties anymore ?

Age goes for nothing, well… most people tell me I’m too young, but I don’t listen. I’m 18 and drive 24 tonne bin lorries at present and sitting my artic course tomorrow.

Not really, if insurance companies do load a young driver, then that’s normally up to age 25, after that it shouldn’t make a difference.

once your over 25 it should put you on a better standing if you have 2 years plus. i mean im 5 years on class c and 4 years on c+e this year and now 26 so we`ll see what happens

So they will still quote the 2 year thing even if your a little older

Insurance firms normally increase the excess for drivers who have held a licence for less than two years although there are many firms prepared to accept that. Just keep trying until you find someone who will.

Yes and if you decide to wait awhile before doing C+E you will find your experience on C will count for nowt too!

The 2 years starts from your test pass , yesterday I have held my licence for class c 2 years and passed c+e in Dec , so no probs with insurance for any class 2 jobs but when it comes to driving an artic very hard to get a foot in door you just have to be lucky enough to find the company that will give you a shot , and believe me that can happen just recently I have found a company that will have me driving the artic for them and impressed them enough with a drive with one of theyre other drivers so much he rang me this week and said one of the artic drivers has booked some leave and can he call me for when hes on hols , happy days for me

Phoned a number of agency’s and company’s direct and the 2 year thing keeps popping up, although one agency said it would have to only be 1 year for them. On a brighter note I have come across a couple of companies and agency’s that don’t have an issue with the 2 year time scale. I’m in the process of chasing them up for an interview/ assessment drive to do my thing :stuck_out_tongue: .

So far age has not appeared to be an issue as I’m 48 years young   (although my mental age is some what less I’m told :unamused: :unamused: )
