I downloaded my card on Friday and I went over the 4.30 by 2minz (about 20minz before the download) and when I looked at the infringements it said I had gone over by 7minz drive , when I looked at other infringements there was 1 claiming I had 1 reduced rest of 8hr37min , and a couple of 10 hr exceeded by 7minz … I can never recall having only 8hr30 min daily rest ? So how could this of happend , how would I explain to vosa ? What are the chances they would believe me
I am in the same boat.
when I take a 15 I make it a 16 and do it all the time. I have now got a few infringement’s on my card saying I had taken 8 minutes. I always leave on the 16 mark, always do and the same with the 30. I make it a 32. Now I am down for driving 7 hours without a break

There is an internal setting on the tacho unit that will change the mode setting from rest if you turn on the ignition (to operate the electric windows etc.). This setting can be changed by the tacho service agents…

That’s it then, the offence isn’t going over 15/13 hours, it’s the inability to fit 9/11 hrs rest into the 24 hr period, which equals an infringement for insufficient rest, it is still an infringement even if you have the full 9/11 hours off!

Do you know why it is recording more minutes on the drive time? Shall I defect the unit ?

If it is a first generation tacho, it will play catch up on the driving time when you stop especially so if you have done a lot of stop start in traffic, so when you stop and put it on break it won’t actually start recording the break minutes until lit finishes adding the driving minutes.
If your not checking the tacho head to see when your 15min break is over, and relying on a timer or the truck clock, that’s were your going wrong.
Always check the taco for your break timings and then you won’t go wrong, and no it’s not faulty, it’s the way they have been set up.
The latest tachos still do it, but the most drive that will actually get recorded after stopping, is upto 30seconds, were as the 1st gen can add 2 full minutes.

Must be first generation 57plate unit , I always set off once the tacho time is on 16/46 , is it only stone ridge that adds the time up when stopped or do Siemens aswell

Yes they do, but that’s one of the reasons why they were changed on the latest generation, to many complaints of robbed time.
It would actually pay to have the old ones replaced with the latest gen, especially if your an owner driver.

Unfortunately I can’t see my boss getting them all changed , I’ll just have to keep an eye on time , it’s traffic and going into the docks what’s the killer
You say you are going by the tacho clock. Is that the displayed time or the counter that says how many minutes you have been on break?

The counter mate
I defected mine on Friday
When i took my break I did a printout to check a time (we have to fill in a form everytime we go to a site) that i arrived on a site. The screen on the Tacho said I had been driving for 4hrs 19 mins when I looked at the printout the driving time said 4hrs 35 mins
Im assuming that there must be something wrong with the unit
