Dodgy Job Or Not?

I’ve responded to an advert on classified ad site for a class 1 driver
rang the guy and he sounded like a nice bloke said the job was supermarket work, delivering
2 loads a day and the pay would be £100 per load, 5 x days per week therefore all going to plan
I’d earn £1,000 for the week. He said the job was only for 4-5 weeks to cover for a guy thats off sick.

Ok so all was going well I was looking forward to starting until today, rang the guy to confirm everything
and he said yes all is well I,ll meet you at yard on Sunday and you,ll be heading over to Belgium, collect load
of fruit and back to UK with it. I’m kinda confused so I ask about change in plan he said oh the supermarket
job theres another lad doing that next week… I’m concerned as I only have a mobile phone no and first name as
contact, Ive googled this guys number and = nothing?, Ive asked for the yard address and got address of a truckstop?
asked how the fuel is paid ie fuelcard etc? and what about tolls etc he says they dont use fuelcards but there’ll be an
envelope in cab with cash to cover fuel and expenses, and all paperwork will be in truck for me, the address where Im collecting
will be set on the sat nav and the uk address also on sat nav. I havent had to be interviewed or do any assessment etc?

I dont want to insult this guy as I’m new to the business and will be gratefull to get started but Im just a bit concerned
things seem to be a little too good to be true, maybe Im just being silly but Im thinking is it more than fruit coming back in the lorry etc?

You done euro work before then I take it?.

No Nozza never been to continent in truck only car, told guy this and he said ah you be fine truck is auto stralis etc ■■

I’m also on the edge of my seat lol, to go or not to go? I’m told Fridays are payday and as its temp work I,ll be paid cash.

I’m with Pete. There is no way any even vaguely credible operator would be working like this. Give this opportunity to end up in a lot of trouble a miss mate!

Yes I know somethings not right, I guess I just got a bit excited at the prospect of a job and good pay, but I guess its better to forget about it and move on. I,ll just tell the guy I cant do it.

I know it’s sometimes better to jump in at the deep end and get on with it.But don’t let your excitment get the better of you.It’s not just money you need for euro work.You’ll need all the documentation for the truck.Your vignette for running to Belgium. So I think you would be best to forget about it to.

Ye ah I,ll forget it and keep looking, have an interview with agency next week so fingers crossed. Thanks for the replies all appreciated.
