Dodgy cpc courses

Spoke to my mate a while ago and said he reckons he knows a guy that for 50quid would upload 7hours training without having to sit the course, has anyone heard of this going on? Of course one mite say i could follow it up by trying it out but thats not really my thing.

I’ve heard of this kind of thing happening. I’ve also heard that the DVLA/DSA do spot checks and can revoke your DQC card as a result, who in turn inform VOSA and the Traffic Commisioner who then revoke your Vocational Licence.

In a nutshell, don’t do it!

I’ve just started a new job and they wanted to see my actual CPC certificates not just my card as proof.

I picked up a copy of truck stop news the other day - there’s a company advertising a full 35 hours of CPC, including 4 nights accommodation, for only £150. I’m not suggesting in any way that they’re dodgy, but can’t for the life of me see how they can make that work?

I’ve not got any certificates, only my DCPC card. I’m sure other in house companies don’t issue certificates either. That must limit them for job applicants.

For fifty quid you might as well do it properly. There’s a haulage firm in Bedford doing it at £30 plus vat & upload for each 7hours.

I know a 25 year old lad who paid over the phone for his dcpc card without attending he was so desperate to get started driving.

It’s not a requirement to issue individual Certs. for each module - although most reputable training providers issue some kind of ‘Record of Attendance’.
You can check on-line by registering with:
gov.uk/check-your-driver-cp … ning-hours
They then send you a password to your driving licence address & you can look at your on-line uploaded modules (the legit one’s!!).
Also you can allow a future or existing employer access to your training record by themselves being issued with temporary password - not sure how this works, more simplistic than initially registering I think??
Some would say this system is better than seeing actual Certificates, after all it’s very easy to ‘create’ an authentic looking Cert.

I have registered and it’s an easy way to keep tabs on what modules you’ve done & their dates, titles & status. I can recommend registering.

I know my course has been uploaded so my record of attendance is available should any future employer require it. It was just the first I had heard of any type of certificate.

I believe they can only look at your on-line training record once you have personally registered and received your password - it comes in the post as one of those long numbers & letters jobs, but you can change it to something easier once you log in.

I would suggest that 2 mins into the usual interview and the applicants fate has been decided, if the job’s worth having then the interviewer will know instictively if the interviewee is the type to ‘fiddle’ the system, cheerio.

A vocational licence and record is a precious thing, a bad record and poor reputation might not matter a jot for those content to flit from one ■■■■ poor paid non job to another, but for those who want the increasingly rare best jobs then keeping a clean record and repute is all.

The online CPC attendance service is not proof in itself that you have attended, there is even a disclaimer that states this when you log in and it cannot be used as evidence that you attended.

A CPC training centre MUST issue a certificate of attendance to every participant. This is a JAUPT requirement and can be read here:

jaupt.org.uk/Newsletters/Iss … Attendance

Wot do you need 4 nights accommodation for if it’s going to be uploaded mickey mouse?

Perhaps in your relief that you won’t have 35 hours of your live wasted, you’ll forget the fact that the accommodation you paid for was never taken up perhaps?
…Also that might be the rate for “7 hours and one night” bearing in mind that most drivers have already done at least some of the dcpc already.

Just googled that recoverytech.co.uk - nothing coming up,it’s got scam written all over it,imho.

It’s owned b a company called All Terrain Training who do offer courses but seem to be specialist ones, not CPC so definitely iffy.

Ramon123,

Besides Google, there are other ways to search for approved DCPC providers, such as by using the JAUPT site.

A quick look gave me this…

:arrow_right: JAUPT

The provider in question is at the top of the page.

This is their website:

A look at the website gives their JAUPT approval number as AC01549

I can’t speak for the quality, but they do seem to be a JAUPT approved provider.

Whoops a daisy !!

Thanks dieseldave
Apologies to recoverytech

Hi Ramon123,

No problem… the ad did look a bit on the cheap and cheerful side, so I had a look.

It seems to be above board and quite inexpensive.

I think it might appeal to those who have left it late to begin their 35hrs, so it could be quite handy to get the whole lot done in one fell swoop.

It might turn out to be a good find for somebody who needs it.

I just got an email from The AA (not the booze people) offering CPC training at £69 plus upload fee.

A friend of mine paid £350 for the full 35hrs and never sat 1 min in the classroom,it cost him the same money but he didn’t have to waste 5 days of his life.
