Dodgy Burgers?

Something I’ve never seen before that’s got me wondering.
Why would a Macdonalds artic run under ADR?
Clocked one about 0545 yesterday, on the M6 just north of Preston. Was I seeing things or is their scoff really that dodgy?

Phosphoric acid for the coke a cola.

Or the floor cleaning products?

or maybe the gas bottles to run the coke dispensers.

That’s the reason! Big CO2 bottles to fizz the cola!

Rat

Or is just the burgers ?

Keystone Don’t run ADR…or they certainly didn’t when I was there last year. We did carry the large CO2 canisters, but only 5 at the most, and they were always empty anyway. We only carried two full ones at the most. Aside from that we hardly carried any of the other chemicals for cleaning and stuff.

ADR
UN ID No. : UN1013
Proper Shipping Name . Carbon Dioxide
Class/ Division : 2.2
Tunnel code : (C/E)
Hazard Identification No. : 2.0
Label(s) : 2.2

I need Dave to put me right on this but I gather that more than 2 cylinders of 10kg each takes you into the realms of ADR

Hi Malc,
You’ve attempted a tricky one here, cos gases can be a nightmare!!

ADR
UN ID No. : UN1013
Proper Shipping Name . Carbon Dioxide
Class/ Division : 2.2
Tunnel code : (C/E)
Hazard Identification No. : 2.0
Label(s) : 2.2

The ADR info you’ve quoted is correct, but the tunnel code isn’t needed cos there was no mention of a tunnel. [ 5.4.1.1.1(k) ]
The HIN (20) also isn’t needed, cos that’s only for a tanker on an international journey. [5.3.2.1.2]

UN 1013 is in TC 3, which is given in the same cell (DG list column 15) in the table where you got the ADR tunnel code.
Alternatively, the classification code 2A (DG list column 3b) would also have got you to the transport category by reference to column 2 of the table at 1.1.3.6.3, so either way up, the ADR threshold limit for packages of UN 1013 is 1,000 liters/kgs, because it is in ADR transport category 3.

You’re too used to tankers Malc. :grimacing:

Is it because the burgers originated in Cherbonyl…

Well a Mcdonalds got shut down in Wakefield quite a while back. I’m not going to say why, but lets just say it’s a big reason why I refuse to go too ANY Mcdonalds :grimacing:

They’re food is poison anyway, it may as well be :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Cheers

Or the floor cleaning products?

Yes Toby, it could be floor cleaning products, but it could also be dishwasher fluid:

When this stuff is packaged in this form, ADR would apply when either 333L or 1,000L is exceeded and in this case that would depend on how corrosive the stuff is.
