Doctors/dentist appointments

Well I’m sorry but it’s not. You can plan all you want but during the day situations arise and develop. Half hour tip turns into 4 hours, fatal accident on the M1, blow outs, “our forklift has broken down” there is a load to pick up and your the only truck within 100 miles. The cost of running a truck/trucks are so high that they have to squeeze every penny, and the planner isn’t going to re route/shuffle/ anything for a drivers personal appointment outside of work.

Yeh in other words UNFORSEENS just as I said, but two weeks notice and a reminder, if he can’t plan,…but NOT COUNTING UNFORSEENS :unamused:…he is just not bothered, if said UNFORSEENS do occur it aint his fault. Please nobody give examples of UNFORSEENS again cos I can’t be arsed to write all this cack down again :unamused: …Off for a pint, hope there aren’t any UNFORSEENS and the pub has took fire or summet…Jeeez!! :unamused: :unamused:

Yeah I agree.

I book my appointments early in the day and then ask for a late start, since I usually get appointments before 10:00 and I start any time between 08:30 and 15:00, company seem to prefer it this way as well. I really wouldn’t bank on getting back for appointments just too many variables to add to the stress.

Dave the Renegade:
In general there is no statutory right for employees to take time off work to attend medical appointments such as visits to the doctor, dentist or hospital and, subject to any contractual provisions, time off in these circumstances is at the discretion of the institution. However, there are some exceptions. Female staff who are pregnant are entitled to take reasonable time off to attend related medical appointments and antenatal classes where medically advised. In the case of employees covered by the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, although they do not have a specific right to take reasonable time off to attend medical appointments, institutions are under a duty to prevent them suffering less favourable treatment at work because of their disability and to make reasonable adjustments where appropriate, which can include appropriate time off to attend medical appointments.

It’s not so much time off though is it? It’s more like flexible working hours as in shifting your attendance to enable the medical stuff rather than losing total hours.

Appointments have always been a nightmare on the job, you just never know whats going to happen, well you can guarantee that once Friday lunchtime comes all bets are off as the lemmings come rushing out.

The only sure fire way to get to appointments is to book the day off, so get your appts on fridays and enjoy it.

Friday off is sure to annoy the unreasonable geezer in the traffic office crew as well which is a bonus, cos theres always a short list of can-do dependable blokes who they always give the just nips and do me a favour jobs to, the good lads who they stitch up like a kipper every time…you know who your are, got a certain word tattoed on yer forehead…last one home every bloody week, had that T shirt for years.

Monday AM is the best time to go for appoointments! well if ya work mon-fri.

no not at all, what do you boys do about getting back to see your kids in the school pantos take a day off?

Ask the boss for a local run, and park the wagon in the school carpark. The kids got a kick out of ‘look what Daddy drives’.
The school got upset though. I took up 16 spaces.

I even got paid to be there. I was still back at the yard for 7pm to catch the trunks.

I have had my fair share of appointments and medical stuff over the years and have been afforded time off. If I am in Germany the day before an appointment I may cancel it or risk it.

Transalliance were brilliant for getting people home on time or on the days they needed.

I am partly with Robroy on this that it works both ways, and in “my time in the office” Strongbow would have given me an ideal driver for the weekend work… I would have pencilled him in for an early start Saturday morning after his dentists appointment. Friday would have seen him running in, shunting or washing trailers early in the day

I caught the tail end of one of those ‘Eddy Stobart are the best’ programs a few weeks ago, & it was following this young mum around on her day’s work. She had to be back to collect her kid from school and, guess what, she made it. Can’t help thinking this may have not been a common occurrence, or is ESL that caring? :open_mouth:
