Doctors/dentist appointments

well after 30 odd years in this game i have missed to many appointments to even start counting them . only recently i had re plan a dental appointment 3 times due to being weekend .but one thing is for sure if im in our yard Friday morning with a appointment on that day then the appointment will be kept .as for getting to the kids panto :unamused: your surely joking on that one

First rule of driving, never book theatre, concert tickets ,chances are you won`t make it.Tyre blow out or a break down on the night or miss a ferry.

Conor:
Have you never had a day turn to crap? Even he posted that he spent an extra 3hrs getting tipped than he normally would. His boss DID schedule it so he would be back but he got delayed at his first tip because they didn’t have a record of it then delayed at his second tip cos he was late due to the first.

Must be nice driving wagons in your universe where nothing ever goes wrong and always follows the plan. :unamused:

if your boss has tried to get you back and your day turns ā– ā– ā– ā–  while your out…nothing can be done,if youve been given a run that obviousy means youll miss your appointment…that is different.

He wasn’t. Had he not had the 3hrs of delays at two deliveries he would have been back an hour early.

he was booked in at brum at 1500…

now your talking bollow mate, that was never a 9hr job from the time he gave me the run.as it was i took my breaks tipping, work it out for yourself luton to doncaster market 3.30 with no holdups thats 7hrs if i had run straight back without tipping then add a trip to central birmingham and then to luton, the trucks got MAN on the front not boeing!!! the point of the post is he gave me a job that couldnt be done in the time, and its a shame that you try to defend him,the job is worse than it was 20years ago,you are still entitled to a life ffs get a backbone,or are you driving a van

Exactly, just like I said previously (even though one on here didn’t grasp that and gave me a riveting example :unamused:… of what turned out to be just another common occurence to most of us :unamused: ) unforseens can not be accounted for. If the tm tried then fair enough, if he didn’t it proved counter productive, as the lad has rightly said…zb him, so now he has to find a man to work Christmas, and if he has shown the same attitude to the rest of his drivers best of luck to him.

Why is finishing at 1830 ā€˜taking time off work’? If there was no work to do on a particular day it would be: ā€˜come in at 8’ and everyone would be chased out of the yard at 5pm, so that the company doesn’t have to pay any overtime.

First things first, you are LEGALLY allowed time off for drs or dentists,if you can prove your employer is not being coopertive,ie asked a few times with enough notice givern, you take him to an industrial tribrunal, second you cAN ALWAYS DO WHAT I HAVE DONE AND THATS DO WHAT HE WANTS UNTIL (OPPSwrong button pushed lol)its time to get back to the yard on time and just go back or leave trailer if still being tipped,ok you might not have a job but you could argue that it is constructive dissmisal, done this myself a couple of times.about time drivers are shown more respect by owners and operators

Surely the OP’s TM could have found him some local stuff for just one day, to be decent, out of courtesy, it’s not like he wanted to skive off to go to a Katie Price book signing.

or he could give you the 0900 swan valley…instead of the 1400 weybridge

All you guys showing that you have a big enough pair to stand up for yourselves, and expect a bit of fair treatment and consideration from your co, may soon be asked " have you ever actually driven a truck" :open_mouth: …well I just have been :unamused:  …Sorry conor mate, just still in shock.

Well, actually I’m a florist

my boss is a good bloke who employs the philosophy of ā€œtrying to work with his driversā€ā€¦end result-a happy workforce who try their best for him.

I can’t believe that some think that this is ok, and coming back with the ā€œwell that’s transport mateā€ line :unamused: . Just because crap management and non consideration towards drivers lives outside the job has gradually became over the years the norm in transport, it doesn’t make it right, and as long as you put up with it it will never change. The lad gave him two weeks notice ffs, and assuming that he aint a habitual ā– ā– ā– ā–  taker, it aint rocket science for the TM to try and sort it for him. I’ve done the job from both sides as a boss and a driver, as long as the guy was genuine and he gave me plenty notice for something important to him, I used to sort it, and now as a driver I seem to get the same courtesy applied to me , again if important and/or genuine. As long as you take crap conditions and treatment as normal and acceptable, the job will always be that…crap… think about it :unamused:

+1

That’s transport mate, you shouldn’t be so naive as to have plans and finish times.

Sorry but thats [zb]! He gave 2 weeks notice to his employer for a MEDICAL reason to be home. They had ample to time to arrange his day/week so that they could have got him home. Thats not ā€œTransportā€ that was pure greed, keep him on the road and [zb] his health!
If i need doctor/dentist I always make my appointment for as late as possible on a Friday and my employer has ALWAYS got me home in time…its called proper planning!!!

Well I’m sorry but it’s not. You can plan all you want but during the day situations arise and develop. Half hour tip turns into 4 hours, fatal accident on the M1, blow outs, ā€œour forklift has broken downā€ there is a load to pick up and your the only truck within 100 miles. The cost of running a truck/trucks are so high that they have to squeeze every penny, and the planner isn’t going to re route/shuffle/ anything for a drivers personal appointment outside of work.

I’ve done the job from both sides as a boss and driver,

:open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: Could we just be on the verge of finding the true identity of another poster on these boardsā– ā– ?

Sorry robroy, just joshing ya!

Yeh in other words UNFORSEENS just as I said, but two weeks notice and a reminder, if he can’t plan,…but NOT COUNTING UNFORSEENS :unamused:…he is just not bothered, if said UNFORSEENS do occur it aint his fault. Please nobody give examples of UNFORSEENS again cos I can’t be arsed to write all this cack down again :unamused: …Off for a pint, hope there aren’t any UNFORSEENS and the pub has took fire or summet…Jeeez!! :unamused: :unamused:

a good planner will sort things out for his drivers just as a good driver will pull his planner out of the ā– ā– ā– ā–  when asked . it’s a two way street .well it is in my book
