Do your Christmas shopping now because of driver shortage

ASDA in Erith are recruiting for full time permanent positions because as well as the banner outside they also have all the details for applications inside the transport office because I’ve seen them when I’ve delivered there and yes that is direct with ASDA and not through an agency.

Its not just ASDA though because these last few months you only have to drive round any industrial estate or areas with a large collection of RDC’s and NDC’s to see how many of these places have banners and ads for permanent Jobs outside. Also more and more I’ve noticed a larger number of radio adverts from the agencies which mean they must be desperate if there prepared to pay to advertise on the airwaves!

No idea if their is a shortage but there is plenty of work out there.

I’m sure these agency jobs don’t exist, I get the feeling that all the agencies are working together to get us all going round in circles to meet their recruitment targets, buoyed by the driver shortage myth.
For instance, I signed up with this agency a couple of months ago who were “desperate for drivers” I initially asked for 4 days per week which is what I got, no problem, over the last couple of weeks the days have dropped off to 2 or 3 because it had “gone quiet”, that’s ok I can manage on that, but last week I didn’t get anything at all and not much prospect for next week, so I will now have to go looking to sign on for another agency next week who are “desperate for drivers”, see what I mean “going round in circles” it’s all a game to them :smiling_imp:

So where’s the website with the full terms and conditions? - Anyone applying is going to want to know how many hours over what times on what days for how much per week as pretty much “entry level” information I would have thought… I’d want to know more than just a big “we’re recruiting” placard that tells you nothing other than that the poster of the ad (not necassarily first-party ASDA) they’re a “bit desperate at the moment” to get some bums on air seats…

I remain cycnical that this is anything more than a measure to get drivers to line up at ASDA through the christmas pressure period…

Shortage? I’ve just been informed that my rates gone up from £9-50 to 10-75 then £16-18 after 8hrs.This in the northeast.
The clever folk who have a choice will try and avoid retail work because it will no doubt slacked after Christmas. It’s crap work anyway.
